Colin Farrell wore a custom, anatomically correct body appliance for Oz Cobb’s torture scene in the opening episode of The Penguin—but viewers never see the appliance itself. The scene gives a side view of the naked character; Farrell said the prosthetic was not filmed.
Was Colin Farrell actually naked in The Penguin?
Farrell said he was covered by a custom appliance made for the scene, rather than appearing uncovered. In a September 2024 interview reported by Gizmodo, he described the experience as strangely exposing: “I felt incredibly exposed, even though I was anything but. I was totally covered, but I was covered by a naked man. And it’s not like I thought I was him, but it had a very strange effect on my ego.”
The distinction is between Farrell’s account of what he wore and what the episode shows: the audience sees Oz Cobb naked from the side while he is tied up and tortured by one of Sofia Falcone’s henchmen, not a clear view of the appliance.
What prosthetic did Farrell wear?
Makeup designer Michael Marino made Farrell a custom, anatomically correct body appliance for the scene. Farrell joked about it in a CinemaBlend interview: “There was no weakness in my Penguin pecker that you designed. Which we never filmed. But it was there, man! It was there. I was fully anatomically correct.”

CinemaBlend reported that the appliance was not filmed and would not appear in a deleted scene or Blu-ray extra. That means there is no on-screen reveal of the custom piece: its existence and design are known through Farrell’s comments, not a close-up in the episode.
How was that different from Oz Cobb’s facial prosthetics?
The body appliance was separate from the facial transformation Marino designed to turn Farrell into the Penguin. The Television Academy’s 2025 feature on the makeup describes a process involving clay sculpting, silicone casting, detailed painting and eight or nine facial pieces. Applying the facial makeup took nearly three hours, according to the feature; that timing describes the facial transformation, not the creation or application of the body appliance.
