That is the official series setup, not a later-season reveal. KADOKAWA’s English synopsis captures its central contradiction: “The only hope left for the world is a single infant entrusted to the Lord of the Dark Beasts himself.” The story’s immediate dramatic question is not simply whether heroes can defeat a monster, but what happens when the expected saviors help cause the crisis—and the feared enemy becomes responsible for protecting humanity’s future.
The premise supports describing the show as dark fantasy with catastrophic stakes. It does not, by itself, establish a specific level of graphic violence or serve as a content advisory.

What makes the premise stand out?
Clevatess gives its fantasy setup a consequential reversal rather than treating the heroes’ quest as an uncomplicated good. The attack on Clevatess has devastating consequences, while the infant’s placement in his care creates an uneasy bond between the apparent threat and the possibility of humanity’s survival. The tension comes from that contradiction: protection is now tied to the being the heroes set out to destroy.
This is a strong reason to try the series if you want a fantasy story built around moral uncertainty and high stakes. It is not evidence that the show outranks every other summer 2025 fantasy anime. The available official material establishes the premise and credits, but does not provide a defensible season-wide comparison or audience ranking.
Who made the anime?
KADOKAWA lists Clevatess as a 12-episode television anime animated by Lay-duce. Yuji Iwahara created the original story; Kiyotaka Taguchi directed and handled sound direction; Keigo Koyanagi wrote the series composition; Soichiro Sako was responsible for character design and chief animation direction; and Nobuaki Nobusawa composed the music.
The principal Japanese cast listed by KADOKAWA includes Haruka Shiraishi as Alicia, Mutsumi Tamura as Klen, Yuichi Nakamura as Clevatess, and Saya Aizawa as Luna. Aoi Yuki, Hiroki Yasumoto, Chiharu Shigematsu, Tomoyo Kurosawa, and Tomokazu Seki are also among the listed cast.

How many episodes does Clevatess have?
KADOKAWA lists 12 episodes. The first episode’s reported length varies by context, so the Japanese television slot and the episode runtime should not be treated as the same figure: LINE Digital Frontier announced an expanded one-hour first broadcast, while Crunchyroll News reported a 45-minute first episode in its July 4, 2025 coverage.

Is Clevatess based on a manga?
Yes. Yuji Iwahara created the source manga, which LINE Digital Frontier identifies as a LINE Manga original. The publisher describes vertical-scroll, full-color webtoon and horizontal-reading monochrome and full-color digital presentations. Those format details do not establish a printed edition or an English-language release.

LINE Digital Frontier’s announcement described LINE Manga as having approximately 150 million global monthly users in March 2025. That figure refers to the platform’s reach, not readership or sales for Clevatess, and not viewership for the anime. The announcement also promoted free chapters from June 10 to 30, 2025; that offer has expired.

The opening theme is “Ruler” by Mayu Maeshima. The ending theme is “Destiny” by Ellie Goulding; LINE Digital Frontier says the song was written for the anime. These credits identify the tracks, but do not establish where they are currently available to stream or purchase.
What is established about home video?
The official anime news index includes an August 27, 2025 announcement showing a Blu-ray jacket image. That establishes that a Blu-ray announcement existed, but does not confirm a release date, price, current stock, or purchase availability in any particular region.
Is Clevatess worth watching?
Consider it if the idea of a disastrous hero-led assault, an infant entrusted to the target of that assault, and a fantasy story centered on that reversal appeals to you. Its official premise gives the series a distinctive dramatic hook; the 12-episode listing and named creative team provide useful context for what it is. Whether it is the season’s “best” is a matter of taste, not a conclusion established by the available rankings or awards.
