Chris competed on Kelly Rowland’s team, and the finale was decided by public vote. The available reporting explains why viewers questioned the result; it does not establish that the vote was manipulated.
Who won The Voice Australia in 2020?
Chris Sebastian won the season nine finale, which aired on July 19, 2020. Nine announced that he defeated finalists Stellar Perry, Johnny Manuel and Siala Robson, winning $100,000 and a recording contract with EMI Music Australia. Nine’s winner announcement
Chris was on Kelly Rowland’s team. His older brother, Guy Sebastian, was also a coach that season. That family connection became central to the reaction after the result.
Why did viewers question whether the result was fair?
Some viewers reacted with claims that the show was “rigged” or unfair, focusing on the fact that Guy was a coach while Chris was a contestant. The controversy also raised a separate question: whether Chris was eligible to compete under the show’s rules on coaches’ family members.

That account helps explain why he was permitted to participate, but it is not evidence that the competition was manipulated. PerthNow’s contemporaneous report
