When Munawar Faruqui received interim bail from the Supreme Court on February 5, 2021, the other accused did not automatically leave custody. Scroll reported on February 9 that Sadakat Khan, Edwin Anthony, Prakhar Vyas and Nalin Yadav were still in jail. Their positions changed within days: the Madhya Pradesh High Court granted ad-interim bail to Anthony and Prakhar Vyas on February 12, while reports at that time said Khan and Yadav remained jailed.
Who were the four still in jail when Scroll reported?
Scroll’s February 9, 2021 report named Sadakat Khan, Edwin Anthony, Prakhar Vyas and Nalin Yadav as the four people still in custody after Faruqui’s interim bail. The arrests followed a complaint by Eklavya Singh Gaud over an Indore show. The complaint alleged objectionable remarks about Hindu deities and Amit Shah; those claims should be understood as allegations, not established findings. Scroll said the other accused’s connection to the alleged conduct was unclear. Anthony’s father told Scroll that his son had attended as an audience member, which is his family’s account rather than a court finding.
How did their bail status change?
February 10: Khan’s second bail plea was rejected
NDTV, reporting on February 10, said an Indore district court rejected Khan’s bail plea for a second time. Its report said that only Faruqui and a minor co-accused were then out on bail. The outlet spells Khan’s name “Sadaqat”; Scroll used “Sadakat.” NDTV’s February 10 report

February 11: custody was extended
The New Indian Express reported that custody for Nalin, Sadaqat, Edwin and Prakhar was extended until February 24. It also said bail pleas for three accused were pending in different courts, underscoring that Faruqui’s release did not determine the others’ applications. The New Indian Express’s February 11 report
February 12: Anthony and Prakhar Vyas received ad-interim bail
The Madhya Pradesh High Court granted ad-interim bail to Edwin Anthony and Prakhar Vyas on February 12. The Indian Express reported that Nalin Yadav and Sadaqat Khan remained in jail at that point and that Priyam Vyas, a juvenile and Prakhar’s younger brother, had been released on bail. These were separate decisions on separate applications. “Ad-interim bail” describes a temporary bail order; it is not an acquittal or a finding on the allegations.
Why was Faruqui’s bail separate from theirs?
Each accused’s custody and bail application was handled through the relevant proceedings for that person. Faruqui’s Supreme Court interim bail order did not itself release the co-accused. The February 11 report on the custody extension and pending applications, followed by the High Court’s order for Anthony and Prakhar the next day, shows how quickly those separate decisions could differ.

The Indian Express also reported that Tukoganj police inspector Kamlesh Sharma said police had no direct evidence against Faruqui for insulting Hindu deities or Amit Shah and had booked him as an organiser. In April 2023, India Today reported that the Supreme Court transferred and clubbed complaints against Faruqui in Indore and made an earlier interim bail order absolute. The report said the Court did not decide the merits of his request to quash the proceedings.
