Chappell Roan’s “The Giver” is no longer a tease: the country-inspired single was released through Amusement/Island Records in March 2025. Roan described it as her own take on country music—not an announcement that she was making a country album.
When did Chappell Roan release “The Giver”?
Universal Music Canada dates the single’s release to March 14, 2025, calling it Roan’s first release of that year. Pitchfork covered the song as released on March 13; the dates may reflect release timing across markets. Universal Music Canada’s announcement identifies Amusement/Island Records as the label behind the release.
What did Roan mean by calling it country-inspired?
Roan said she grew up hearing country music on the school bus and in everyday settings, and that she wanted to make songs that felt happy and fun. She characterized “The Giver” as her take on the genre, rather than presenting it as a statement about her future albums.
“Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is.. right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on cuntry xoxo”

The playful spelling “cuntry” is Roan’s wording in the statement. Pitchfork also reported that she discussed country-pop influences, nostalgia, summertime fun, fiddle, and banjo when describing the song’s sound. Pitchfork’s report places those details in the context of a song inspired by her own sense of country music.
How did Roan tease “The Giver”?
Roan first performed the song on Saturday Night Live in 2024. That early performance helped build anticipation for an official release the following year. Ahead of the single, the label also described promotional billboards in Nashville, New York, and Los Angeles, character personas, and a hotline that played song previews. Universal Music Canada’s announcement recounts that rollout.
