Puth’s Instagram message recalled knowing Payne through work as well as remembering him personally. The Associated Press quoted him saying: “I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I can not believe he is gone.” AP noted that Puth had written on a song for Payne’s solo debut album. ABC News also reported Puth’s Instagram Story and quoted his words about Payne always being kind to him.
What did Camila Cabello say about Liam Payne?
Cabello’s tribute, reported by ABC News from an Instagram Story, focused on a memory from when she was a young fan. She wrote: “Thank you Liam for all the joy you brought my friends and i,” then recalled that meeting a member of a group she loved—and finding him kind—had made an impression on her. She called his death “a tragedy” and said he was gone “way too soon.” TIME reported the same substance with editorial capitalization.
What did One Direction say about Liam Payne?
Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik issued a joint statement after Payne’s death. As reported by AP and TIME, they said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”

Styles also posted an individual tribute on Instagram. AP quoted him describing Payne as warm, supportive, and loving, and wrote: “The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend.”
How did collaborators and friends remember him?
Several musicians and people who had worked with Payne shared tributes. Their messages recalled professional collaborations and personal qualities rather than offering a single, uniform account of their relationships with him.

- Rita Ora: The singer, who collaborated with Payne on “For You,” told AP, “I’m devastated. He had the kindest soul, I will never forget. I loved working with him so much – he was just such a joy to be around on and off stage.”
- Zedd: The producer and DJ posted on X, “RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking,” according to AP. CNA also reported a follow-up message from Zedd urging people to be kind and mindful because life is short and fragile.
- James Corden: In a message on Instagram quoted by AP, the television host wrote, “Talking about Liam in the past tense is utterly heartbreaking. He was such a loving and kind soul. I will treasure the moments I got to spend with him.”
- Olly Murs: ABC News quoted the singer saying, “This news is devastating, am lost for words.” Murs also recalled their shared humor and said Payne’s death hit hard because he died young.
Which other public figures reacted?
Paris Hilton shared condolences on X. AP quoted her post: “So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend.” Her message was directed to Payne’s family and loved ones as well as expressing her own grief.
