Some celebrities have built major fortunes through businesses beyond film, music, and television—but a celebrity’s net worth is not the same as money earned outside entertainment. Forbes Australia’s 2026 roundup counted 22 celebrity billionaires with a combined estimated net worth of $48.1 billion, using estimates dated March 1, 2026. Its definition includes people who became famous before becoming wealthy; it is not a ranking of fortunes made entirely outside show business. Forbes Australia explains its criteria as featuring people who “became famous first, then massively rich.”
What counts as a fortune outside show business?
It means wealth tied to a business or investment beyond a person’s entertainment work: a beauty label, consumer-goods company, spirits brand, lifestyle business, or apparel company, for example. The distinction matters because public estimates often combine several sources of wealth. A celebrity’s net worth may include entertainment income as well as business stakes and other assets; the available figures do not consistently isolate what came from each.
Four measures should not be treated as interchangeable:
- Company valuation: an estimate of what a whole business is worth, usually at a particular time.
- Stake value: an estimate of the value of the portion a person owns.
- Personal net worth: an estimate of a person’s assets minus liabilities, potentially spanning entertainment and business.
- Sale proceeds: money actually received in a transaction. A company valuation alone does not establish how much an individual took home.

Why Rihanna’s Fenty example needs two dates
Fenty illustrates both the scale and the limits of celebrity-business figures. Forbes Australia’s 2026 estimate puts Rihanna’s personal net worth at $1 billion and calls Fenty Beauty her biggest asset. Separately, the Los Angeles Times reported a Forbes estimate of $2.8 billion for the brand in 2021. The first is a person-level estimate from 2026; the second is a dated estimate for the whole brand. Neither figure tells readers the precise value of Rihanna’s stake or how much cash she has received.

The same distinction applies to the reported discussion of an LVMH stake sale. A potential company valuation of $1 billion to $2 billion is not evidence that a transaction occurred, nor does it establish the price of LVMH’s stake or Rihanna’s proceeds.
Growth does not make every celebrity venture a success
A famous founder may attract attention and customers, but visibility is not a guarantee of durable profits. TIME’s 2017 feature described Casamigos as commercially successful after its public launch, while reporting that Jessica Biel’s Au Fudge restaurant was not making money at the time. The contrast is a reminder that outcomes differ even among ventures launched with celebrity recognition. Those observations date to 2017 and should not be treated as current assessments.

The Los Angeles Times’ 2023 roundup also describes a mixed business landscape that includes acquisitions, changing partnerships, reported declines, and legal challenges alongside growth. For The Honest Company, its account covers category expansion as well as legal claims and false-advertising settlements. These records complicate any simple story in which fame automatically produces a successful company.

- Check the date: a company valuation from 2021 cannot be presented as its value in 2026.
- Check what is being measured: a person’s net worth, a company’s valuation, an ownership stake, and sale proceeds answer different questions.
- Check the person’s role: “founded,” “co-founded,” “owns,” and “endorses” describe different relationships. Use only the role the source supports.
- Check the outcome: a launch or expanding product line shows business activity, not necessarily profitability or lasting success.
Forbes Australia’s 2026 roundup offers a broad view of celebrity wealth, not a clean accounting of how much was earned outside entertainment. Its figures are estimates, and the available reporting does not provide consistently comparable ownership percentages or realized proceeds for all the examples above.
