Spoilers for Chainsaw Man chapter 179. The Aging Devil’s apparent interruption of Yoru’s attack is the moment that makes it look like the strongest devil so far. But chapter 179 does not declare a definitive strongest devil: it gives readers a striking display of power, not an official ranking.
What happens in chapter 179?
The chapter’s strongest-devil reading rests on a sharp reversal: a secondary recap describes the Aging Devil stopping Yoru’s attack, making the War Devil’s force look suddenly less decisive. That apparent ability to halt an attack is the scene’s central evidence for the Aging Devil’s intimidating power. The recap is not an official chapter source, so fine-grained staging and dialogue should be checked against the licensed chapter itself.

VIZ lists the English installment as Chainsaw Man, Chapter 179. The official Japanese Shonen Jump+ listing names it 「ヴァンヴァガ」.
Is the Aging Devil stronger than Yoru?
The scene supports the impression that the Aging Devil can exert immediate control over a dangerous confrontation. It does not, by itself, settle a direct comparison with Yoru. A character stopping one attack demonstrates something specific about that encounter; it does not prove superiority across every kind of fight, circumstance, or measure of power.
#1 Best Overall
“Stronger” can mean different things in a story where devils’ abilities are not interchangeable. A useful comparison separates four questions:
- Immediate stopping power: Can a devil interrupt or neutralize an opponent’s action in the moment?
- Demonstrated scale: How broad or consequential is the effect shown on the page?
- Constraints and costs: What limits, conditions, or trade-offs shape the ability? Chapter 179’s cited material does not establish a complete account of these for a ranking.
- Type of power: An unusual ability can decide an encounter without being equivalent to raw physical force or destructive scale.
These are analytical dimensions, not a ranking supplied by the manga. On the evidence associated with this chapter, the Aging Devil looks formidable because it appears able to stop Yoru’s attack—not because the chapter proves it would defeat every devil.

Does chapter 179 reveal the strongest devil?
No canonical “strongest devil” ranking is established by the chapter information available here. The official listings identify the chapter and its release details; they do not rank devils. The strongest-devil claim is therefore best read as an interpretation of the Aging Devil’s apparent intervention, rather than a statement attributed to Tatsuki Fujimoto or the manga itself.
