Spoilers for Chainsaw Man Part 2, Chapter 166. Chapter 166 puts Denji’s physical impulses in uncomfortable tension with his wish for a life that feels meaningful. Its Japanese title, “Rain, Soap, Severance,” points toward the chapter’s mix of bodily comedy and more serious questions about what Denji wants—and whether he understands the difference between desire and fulfillment.
What is Chainsaw Man Chapter 166?
Chapter 166 is part of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man Part 2. Shueisha’s official Shonen Jump+ listing dates the Japanese chapter May 22, 2024, and gives its title as 第166話 雨・ソープ・切断—literally, “Chapter 166: Rain, Soap, Severance.” That is a literal translation of the Japanese title, not a separately verified official English subtitle. Read the official Shonen Jump+ listing.
The title’s collision of ordinary and unsettling images suits the chapter’s central pressure point: Denji’s bodily wants are not automatically the same as the life he hopes will make him happy. That is an interpretation of the chapter’s framing, not a statement attributed to Fujimoto.
Why does Denji want to stop being horny?
Denji’s problem is not simply that he has physical desires. The difficulty is that he recognizes how those impulses can pull his attention away from the kind of romantic connection and ordinary satisfaction he wants. The chapter makes that mismatch an awkward, blunt question rather than offering a neat lesson: if a desire is powerful, does satisfying it bring Denji closer to happiness, or leave the deeper want untouched?

That question fits a conflict established elsewhere in the series. Shueisha’s synopsis for Volume 16 frames Denji as deciding whether to continue an ordinary life or live as Chainsaw Man. It provides broader context for his struggle, but it is not a synopsis of Chapter 166. See Shueisha’s Volume 16 listing.
What does Yoru offer Denji?
Yoru’s response turns Denji’s struggle into a question of bodily autonomy: can the source of an unwanted impulse simply be removed? The offer is striking because it treats a complicated emotional problem as something that might be solved through a physical intervention. That tension—between what Denji feels, what he wants to choose, and what another person proposes to do about it—is more revealing than a simple joke about sexual frustration.

The Japanese title’s word “severance” sharpens that reading, though the title alone cannot establish the chapter’s full meaning. Read the licensed chapter for its exact dialogue and sequence; the public Shonen Jump+ listing identifies the chapter but gates the chapter text behind points or a rental.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Chapter 166 matters to Denji’s story
Chapter 166 turns a crude, bodily subject into a pointed question about self-understanding. Denji is trying to distinguish immediate appetite from the kind of connection and life he considers worth wanting. The chapter’s discomfort comes from how easily those things become tangled—and from the possibility that a drastic solution to one impulse would not answer the larger question of what makes him satisfied.
