She also explained that she had not made Brat expecting it to become a major success: “I wasn’t ever thinking about—especially recently—the success of something. And that was very true for Brat. I wasn’t thinking that it would be very successful at all, despite believing in the music massively. I was making it for myself.” The remark is best understood as a statement about expectation and creative intent, not a literal account of her entire Grammy history.
Her Grammy history before Brat
W Magazine reported that Charli had previously received two Grammy nominations, both connected to Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” Her comment that she had not expected the Grammys’ attention around Brat therefore does not mean she had never received Grammy recognition; it points to the scale and timing of the new attention.

- Best Dance/Electronic Album for Brat
