Chad Duell announced on November 23, 2024, that he was stepping away from General Hospital, where he had played Michael Corinthos since 2010. He left the series in January 2025, and Rory Gibson later took over the role.
What Chad Duell said about leaving
In the announcement reported by TVLine, Duell said, “After many incredible years with General Hospital, I’ve decided to step away from the show.” He also described the choice as difficult but right for that point in his life: “This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life.”
Duell thanked the show’s cast, crew, executive producer and viewers. Executive producer Frank Valentini confirmed the forthcoming exit, saying he was sad to confirm the news. At the time, Valentini said there were no plans to recast Michael, while adding, “you never know in daytime.”
How long did Duell play Michael Corinthos?
Duell began playing Michael in 2010. His November 2024 announcement came nearly 15 years later. Contemporary coverage described his tenure as 14 years, while later coverage called it a 15-year run; those descriptions refer to the same period, rounded differently.
