Hulu’s Cartoon Network catalog lists both The Powerpuff Girls (2016) and The Powerpuff Girls (Classic). The listing makes Hulu the current catalog destination identified here, but streaming availability can change. Hulu first announced a franchise streaming deal on November 22, 2016, saying the reimagined series would begin streaming in early 2017.
Where can you watch The Powerpuff Girls (2016)?
Hulu’s Cartoon Network catalog currently lists the 2016 reboot as well as the classic series. That is evidence of their catalog listing, not a guarantee that either title will remain available or be included under every current plan. Check Hulu’s listing and account terms for your location before subscribing or expecting access.
What was Hulu’s streaming deal?
On November 22, 2016, Hulu announced that it had secured exclusive streaming video-on-demand rights to the Powerpuff Girls franchise. The announced package covered both the newly reimagined 2016 series and the classic library. Hulu said the reboot would arrive on its service in early 2017. “Exclusive” describes the deal as announced in 2016; the announcement does not establish a current exclusivity term.
Hulu’s announcement also described the production: Cartoon Network Studios made the reboot, with Nick Jennings as executive producer and Bob Boyle as co-executive producer. The original series, created by Craig McCracken, premiered in 1998.

How is the reboot different from the classic series?
The two entries on Hulu’s catalog page refer to separate productions, not two names for the same show. The reboot is the reimagined 2016 series; the classic is McCracken’s original series. Hulu reported that the original ran for 78 episodes and received two Emmy Awards from five nominations.
At the time of Hulu’s 2016 announcement, the company described the newly reimagined series as having more than 81 million fans worldwide. That is a historical promotional figure reported then, not a current audience measurement.

Why was the reboot described as controversial?
“Controversial” is a characterization, not a measured consensus among viewers. One documented point of disagreement concerned McCracken’s involvement. In May 2016, TV Series Finale reproduced a tweet in which the creator wrote: “I never officially gave it my blessing I just understood the business reality that I had no power to stop it from being made”. The comment reflects his stated position; it should not be treated as proof that every viewer or participant opposed the reboot.
The recasting of the lead roles also prompted public discussion at the time. That reaction is useful context for the reboot’s reception, but it does not establish a universal response or a single reason viewers objected.

What was the franchise’s scale at the time?
In its June 16, 2014 report on Cartoon Network’s reboot announcement, TIME cited more than $2.5 billion in retail sales for the Powerpuff Girls brand. That is historical brand context, not current revenue. The same report quoted Cartoon Network chief content officer Rob Sorcher: “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.”
