Cardi B posted a brief Instagram Story remembering Takeoff in May 2023, as reports emerged that Patrick Xavier Clark had been indicted on a murder charge in connection with the rapper’s killing. She called Takeoff an angel and urged people to protect their brothers and family. An indictment is an accusation, not a finding of guilt.
What Cardi B said about Takeoff
The Los Angeles Times reported that Cardi B’s Instagram Story read: “What a angel god blessed this earth with. Protect your brothers and your family. I know you see the tears. I know you see them looking at the sky askin why — what a beautiful soul to take.” The post was a short expression of grief and a call to look after loved ones. Los Angeles Times, May 26, 2023
Instagram Stories are temporary, so the contemporaneous Los Angeles Times report is the source for the wording quoted here.
Why she posted after the indictment news
The tribute appeared as news circulated that Clark had been indicted in connection with Takeoff’s death. The timing linked a personal remembrance to a major development in the case, but Cardi B’s post was a tribute, not a statement about Clark’s guilt or the evidence against him.

Takeoff’s death and Cardi B’s earlier tribute
Takeoff was fatally shot outside a Houston bowling alley on November 1, 2022, at age 28. The May 2023 Story was not Cardi B’s first public tribute: after his funeral in November 2022, she shared a longer message reflecting on his talent and personality and the pain of his loss.
