Why “I Don’t Want to Go Home” fits the setting
The song connects the surprise performance to the Asbury Park music scene that shaped both musicians. The Stone Pony identifies “I Don’t Want to Go Home” as the title track of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ 1976 debut album, produced by Van Zandt. The venue’s history also records a May 30, 1976 concert featuring the Jukes, Springsteen, members of the E Street Band, Ronnie Spector and Lee Dorsey.
