Yes, you can buy the original Diablo through Battle.net today. Blizzard announced its Battle.net Shop release in January 2024, after GOG first launched its digital version in 2019. GOG still lists Diablo + Hellfire, and its version offers a choice between a Battle.net-compatible original mode and an enhanced mode that does not connect to Battle.net.
Can you buy the original Diablo on Battle.net?
Yes. Blizzard announced that the original Diablo was available in the Battle.net Shop on January 29, 2024. Blizzard describes the game as a 16-level descent into the dungeons beneath Tristram, with multiplayer for up to three other players. Read Blizzard’s Battle.net availability announcement.

This is different from what Blizzard said when GOG first released the game digitally. In its March 7, 2019 announcement, Blizzard said Diablo would not be sold or downloaded through the Battle.net App. That statement described the 2019 launch situation, not the current availability: Blizzard later added the game to the Battle.net Shop.
How do the GOG and Battle.net versions differ?
The main distinction on GOG is between two ways to play: an unchanged original mode that can connect to Blizzard’s Battle.net service, and a GOG-enhanced mode with compatibility and display and audio improvements that cannot connect to Battle.net. GOG says the enhanced mode supports LAN and peer-to-peer multiplayer.

Buying through the Battle.net Shop is not the same thing as choosing the Battle.net-compatible mode in GOG’s listing. The former is a storefront; the latter describes one of GOG’s included game modes. Blizzard’s Battle.net Shop announcement confirms the release and multiplayer count, but does not establish that the Battle.net-shop edition has the same mode selection or connection options as GOG’s two builds.

Does the GOG version include Hellfire?
Yes. GOG’s current Diablo + Hellfire listing includes Hellfire as a free add-on. It is an expansion developed by Synergistic Software, not an official Blizzard product. The reviewed Battle.net regional listing also says Hellfire is included, though store details and availability should be checked in the buyer’s own region.

Can you play GOG’s Diablo offline?
GOG says its version is DRM-free, provides an offline installer, and does not require its Galaxy client. That makes GOG the clearly documented option here for downloading an installer without relying on Galaxy. GOG lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 support; that is the seller’s compatibility statement, not an independent test. Its product page records validation in November 2024 and wrapper and crash fixes in December 2024. See GOG’s product details and changelog.
The Battle.net regional listing requires a Battle.net account, but it does not establish whether the game can be installed or played offline. Do not assume that Battle.net’s account requirement means either that offline play is impossible or that it is supported.
