For comparison, Official Charts reported 1.33 million copies sold and 29 million streams for “Just the Way You Are,” just over one million sales and 19.4 million streams for “Grenade,” 864,000 sales and 27.2 million streams for “Locked Out of Heaven,” and 669,000 downloads and 28.6 million streams for “When I Was Your Man.” These are the figures reported in the 2018 article, not comparable revenue totals.
How newer global and US milestones compare
Later milestones show the reach of Mars’ catalog, but they use different measures and cannot be added to the UK ranking as if they were the same kind of sales total.
IFPI’s global annual chart
In IFPI’s 2025 Global Single Chart, published February 19, 2026, ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” ranked first with 2.06 billion chart units; “Die With A Smile” ranked fourth with 1.86 billion. IFPI’s units measure track consumption—including remixes and alternative versions—by combining single-track downloads and streams across free and paid services using regional format economics. They are not money earned by the artists. IFPI also says an enhancement to its methodology in 2024 means subscription stream equivalents are not directly comparable with Global Single Chart results from 2023 and earlier. IFPI CEO Victoria Oakley called “APT.” reaching the top “a landmark moment,” noting it was the first winning single to feature non-English lyrics, in that February 19, 2026 announcement.

Spotify listening milestones
Spotify reported that Mars reached 150 million monthly listeners on January 27, 2025, and that 17 of his tracks had passed one billion Spotify streams as of its newsroom article that day. These are Spotify-specific audience and stream milestones, not sales totals or revenue. Spotify’s announcement.
US certification context
Atlantic Records said on February 20, 2026, that “Just the Way You Are” had reached 21x RIAA Platinum and described it as the highest-certified song in RIAA history. That is a label-published statement about US certification, not a worldwide revenue figure. Atlantic Records’ press material.

Why these figures don’t create a global revenue ranking
“Biggest,” “most streamed,” “highest certified” and “highest-grossing” describe different things. A chart can combine consumption measures; a certification reflects thresholds under a particular country’s rules; a platform milestone counts activity on that service. None, by itself, tells readers how much a song generated in revenue worldwide.
The sources cited here do not establish a comparable worldwide lifetime revenue total for each Bruno Mars song. A defensible comparison needs the same geography, time period and metric for every track. For that reason, the UK list is best read as a ranked UK consumption snapshot, while IFPI, Spotify and RIAA-related claims provide separate context.
