Asked whether he felt relief after his divorce from Angelina Jolie was legally finalized, Brad Pitt gave a brief answer in a May 2025 GQ cover-story interview: “No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.” He did not offer a longer account of the divorce.
What did Brad Pitt say about the divorce being finalized?
Pitt’s response was understated. As reported by Harper’s Bazaar, he was asked whether he felt relief or noticed a difference after the legal finalization. He replied: “No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.” The interview coverage says he did not elaborate further on the divorce.
When was the divorce settlement finalized?
The agreement came after the couple’s marital status had already been changed by a court. In 2019, a judge declared Pitt and Jolie divorced and legally single, while property division and custody matters remained unresolved, according to the Associated Press.
Pitt and Jolie signed their agreement on December 30, 2024. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott J. Nord approved it the following day. The AP reported that the filing waived future spousal financial support but disclosed no other settlement terms. The distinction helps explain why the couple could be declared divorced in 2019 yet still reach a later agreement resolving remaining divorce matters.

What is known about the settlement—and what is not?
Public reporting on the agreement is limited. The AP reported the waiver of future spousal financial support and said the filing provided no other settlement details. The available account therefore does not establish how other property or financial matters were handled; claims about undisclosed terms would be speculation.
Did the settlement resolve the Château Miraval lawsuit?
No. The divorce agreement did not affect Pitt’s separate lawsuit concerning Château Miraval, the winery the couple once owned together, the AP reported. That litigation is distinct from the divorce settlement; its contested positions should not be mistaken for findings in the divorce case.

How the divorce reached this point
- 2016: Jolie filed for divorce.
- 2019: A judge declared the couple divorced and single, while custody and asset matters remained to be settled.
- December 30–31, 2024: The couple signed an agreement, which Judge Scott J. Nord approved the next day.
- May 2025: Pitt made his brief comment about the legal finalization in a GQ cover-story interview.
The AP describes Pitt and Jolie as together for 12 years, married for two, and parents of six children. Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, said in a statement reported by the AP that she was “exhausted” but “relieved this one part is over.” Those were Simon’s words about his client, not a direct interview quote from Jolie.
