What Album of the Year recognizes
Album of the Year recognizes an album’s overall achievement, not only its lead performer. The Recording Academy describes the award as recognizing the artist and eligible contributors, including featured artists, songwriters, producers, recording engineers, mixers, and mastering engineers. Its evaluation considers performance, production, engineering and mixing, and songwriting, with arranging and musicianship as additional considerations. The 2025 category covered recordings released from September 16, 2023, through August 30, 2024. The Academy’s category page also lists album credits, including producers, engineers, mixers, and mastering engineer Colin Leonard.
Beyoncé’s acceptance remarks
In its event report, the Recording Academy said Beyoncé dedicated the award to Linda Martell. The report attributes this remark to her acceptance speech: “I want to dedicate this to Mrs. Martell, and I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors.” Read the Academy’s event report.
