Why Rebecca Twigley’s 2004 red gown remains a touchstone
Rebecca Twigley’s red gown is the clearest historical centerpiece in the available Brownlow fashion coverage. Contemporary ABC reporting said it “stole the show” as Chris Judd won the medal. Later retrospectives have repeatedly singled it out as a defining or especially well-known Brownlow look; those are editorial judgments, not official awards. PerthNow credits the gown to Perth designer Ruth Tarvydas. Twigley was her name at the time; later coverage identifies her as Rebecca Judd.
The dress also had a life after the ceremony: ABC reported in 2004 that it sold at a charity auction for $23,000, with proceeds going to TLC for Kids.

2003: Fiona Mills
PerthNow’s 2024 retrospective calls Fiona Mills’s Brownlow dress a special look. The gallery offers little further design detail, so it serves here as an early-century visual reference rather than a garment description.
2014: Gabi Grecko
PerthNow describes Gabi Grecko’s gown as “Lady Gaga-esque” and notes Egyptian-inspired makeup. The comparison is the publication’s characterization, not a designer attribution.

2016: Brit Davis and Jordan Ablett
Brit Davis’s pink gown earned a fairytale-like description from PerthNow. In a striking contrast, Jordan Ablett wore a red J’Aton Couture dress that the publication described as gladiator-inspired. The pair shows how varied the featured Brownlow looks could be in the same year.
2017: Moana Hope and Isabella Carlstrom
PerthNow’s retrospective pairs Moana Hope, in a navy tux, with Isabella Carlstrom, in a Con Ilio dress. The appeal of this entry is the contrast between tailored suiting and a named designer gown.

PerthNow highlights a J’Aton dress as one of Nadia Bartel’s memorable Brownlow looks. The available description does not specify further construction details.

Recent red-carpet snapshots
ABC’s 2024 and 2025 event galleries offer more recent examples through named attendees and image captions. The 2024 coverage notes corset-style bodices and matching chain details; the 2025 gallery includes metallic, ruffled, and shimmering looks. These are details visible in the pictured event coverage, not proof of a measured fashion trend. Where a caption does not name a designer, none is inferred here.
The AFL’s official Brownlow archive also makes galleries available for years from at least 2013 through 2022, while its 2026 gallery frames fashion as part of the night before voting begins.
