On January 30, Rolling Stone reported that Spears had posted an apology on Instagram, writing: “I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book.” She added, “If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry.” The publication said her account had become private, meaning people who did not already follow her could not view its posts. This was a reported account setting, not an official confirmation from Instagram or Spears. Rolling Stone’s January 30, 2024 report also noted that Spears shared a clip of Justin Timberlake on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and praised his song “Selfish.”
What did Spears apologize for in her book?
Spears referred broadly to “some of the things” she had written. The post, as quoted in contemporaneous reporting, did not name a particular passage or say that one specific account was the sole subject of her apology.

How the January post fits the timeline
- October 2023: Before the memoir’s release, Spears said, “My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means!” The Guardian reported that she also said most of its content concerned events from about 20 years earlier.
