What the reports said
On August 18, 2014, UPI reported that a clip shared on Instagram by the account britneysite appeared to show Spears performing “Perfume” along with Sia’s version of the song. UPI described Spears’s vocals as allegedly audible, but said Sia’s voice was more prominent in the clip. UPI’s report concerns listeners’ impressions of a fan recording; it does not provide an independent audio authentication.

Entertainment Tonight also covered the accusation that day, placing the performance in Spears’s Las Vegas Piece of Me residency.
Why Sia’s voice was associated with “Perfume”
“Perfume” is a song on Spears’s Britney Jean album, and Sia co-wrote it, according to the contemporary coverage. That connection explains why Sia’s voice might be recognized in a recording related to the song, but it does not identify which vocal recording, if any, was played during the show. UPI’s coverage of the song provides that album and co-writing context.

Could it have been an in-ear guide track?
Entertainment Tonight relayed a possible explanation discussed in Billboard coverage: Sia’s vocal may have been used as an in-monitor guide for Spears and not intended for the audience to hear. That was a proposed explanation, not a confirmed account of the show’s audio setup. No direct statement from Spears, Sia, or the residency production team about this specific incident was established in the cited reports.

The allegation rests on how a fan-shared recording sounded to listeners. The sources do not independently authenticate that recording or establish the audio delivered through the venue’s audience speakers. Without those details, the clip cannot settle whether Spears sang live, lip-synced, or used a vocal guide that was audible only in her monitors. The careful conclusion is that the video appeared to feature Sia’s voice; it does not prove that Spears lip-synced to it in the room.
