What Brigitte Macron has said about the marriage
Her concern for her children
In the ELLE interview, Brigitte said her greatest concern was her children. She acknowledged that family separations can cause hurt, but framed her decision to pursue the relationship as a vital choice: “There are times in your life when you make critical choices.” She added, “If I had not made that choice, I would have missed out on my life.” Her comments describe her own concerns and decision; they do not establish how her children felt.
The age difference and public scrutiny
Brigitte said she and Emmanuel joked about the age difference rather than spending time worrying about it: “It’s a joke between us; we don’t waste one minute worrying about the age difference.” She also acknowledged that public criticism had been difficult. An ABC News report from August 2017 excerpted her remarks about age-gap criticism from ELLE France; it is corroboration of that excerpt, not a separate interview. ABC News, 19 August 2017.
