The first books are Stormlight-focused; expansion to Mistborn and the wider setting is the stated ambition, not a claim that every world already has a published rulebook.
What is Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere RPG?
The Cosmere RPG is an original tabletop roleplaying game developed by Brotherwise Games with Dragonsteel. Players collaboratively tell a story by creating characters and taking part in scenes such as combats, endeavors, and conversations. It is not simply a Stormlight setting layered over an existing roleplaying ruleset: the project team said it wanted a system that could capture the scope and tone of the Cosmere. The campaign FAQ gives that design rationale.
“Bigger than Stormlight” is best understood as a statement about the game’s intended reach across settings, not a measurable comparison of the size of its books, rules, or play experience. The published starting point is Roshar, the world of The Stormlight Archive.
What books do you need to play?
The Stormlight line gives the books distinct jobs. The Stormlight Handbook is the rules foundation; the Stormlight World Guide is the setting reference; and Stonewalkers is a ready-to-run adventure. The official Handbook sample describes using the Handbook alongside either an adventure or the World Guide.

For someone deciding what to look for physically, the clearest starting product name is Cosmere RPG Stormlight Handbook. The World Guide and Stonewalkers add setting reference and prepared story content, respectively; miniatures and other accessories are optional rather than prerequisites.
Does the Cosmere RPG cover Mistborn?
The system is described as being designed for adventures on any Cosmere world, not only Roshar. The campaign’s stated plan is to begin with Stormlight, expand to Mistborn, and grow to support the wider Cosmere. That is an ambition and product direction, not proof that complete rules and books for every setting are currently available.
The publisher’s news index includes a Mistborn design diary, while the campaign page still frames Mistborn as an expansion. Neither establishes a release date for Mistborn books. Treat announcements and retailer listings as the source of current timing rather than assuming the companion products have launched.
Availability and release timing
Availability depends on region and format. In an update published in October 2026, Brotherwise said backer fulfillment was underway by region and that retail release would wait until backers in each country had received their rewards. The update moved the US retail date for the Stormlight line from October 29 to November 12, 2026, citing additional print-run time after stronger-than-anticipated retailer orders; it warned that other regions could have later dates. Check a local retailer’s live listing before relying on a date or assuming stock is available. See the publisher’s news index for the update and other dated announcements.

That October update also said Wave 1 PDFs had been distributed to backers and pointed readers to free Stormlight quick-start characters. It reported updated Spanish PDFs for core books and select materials, while some Spanish physical and PDF products were still in progress at that time. Those statements describe the update’s status, not a guarantee of present stock, access, or localization.

Brotherwise Games’ Kickstarter campaign page, last updated October 1, 2026, reports 55,106 backers and $15,149,874 pledged. Those figures describe the 2026 crowdfunding campaign.
