PBS does not have one nationwide channel number on DISH. DISH carries local PBS stations where available, and the channel depends on your service address, market and package. Use DISH’s local-channel finder to check your lineup; search your on-screen guide for the station’s call letters if “PBS” does not find it.
Why PBS has no single DISH channel number
PBS is a network of locally operated member stations, not one national station carried at the same number everywhere. DISH’s channel guides group these services as “PBS Affiliates” in the local-channel section. The station and number depend on the market associated with your service address, and DISH says not every affiliate is available in every market.

DISH’s January, July and December 2024 channel guides list PBS affiliates among local channels rather than assigning PBS a universal number. The December guide is marked valid as of December 2024; those guides document the 2024 lineup, not today’s channel number. For a current answer, check DISH’s live lookup for your address.

How to find PBS on your DISH lineup
Use DISH’s local-channel finder
- Open DISH Local TV Channels & Programming.
- Enter the ZIP code or address for the DISH service location.
- Review the local-channel results and find the PBS listing. Note the station call sign and the channel number; if both standard- and high-definition listings appear, choose the one you want to watch.
The service address matters: a nearby ZIP code can fall in a different TV market and return a different lineup.

Search the on-screen guide
Press GUIDE on your DISH remote and search for “PBS” or the local station’s call letters. Receivers and software versions can use different search menus, so the precise sequence after opening the guide may vary. If the station is absent, check the address and local-channel results on your DISH account rather than assuming it has a national PBS number.
Identify your station with PBS
If you do not know the station’s call letters, use the PBS station directory or PBS Station Finder to identify the member station serving your location. These tools help identify the station and its information; use DISH’s finder to confirm the satellite channel number.

Does every DISH customer get PBS?
No. Availability depends on the market and the customer’s package or local-channel eligibility. DISH’s 2024 guides place PBS affiliates among local offerings and note that not all affiliates are available in every market. Check the lineup for the service address and your account’s package details; a general network listing cannot confirm that a particular local station is included.

- Check the station name. Your guide may list the local station by its call letters or branding rather than simply “PBS.” Search both.
- Verify the service address. If you moved or are viewing away from the account’s service location, the guide may reflect a different market. Confirm the address with DISH.
- Check package eligibility. Confirm with DISH whether your package includes the local channels available at your address.
- Refresh the guide after a change. If you recently changed service or the lineup changed, allow the receiver’s guide to update; consult DISH support for receiver-specific steps.
- Ask whether the station is carried. If the local-channel finder does not list the affiliate, contact DISH to confirm availability. A temporary carriage change or retransmission dispute can affect a station, but that possibility alone does not establish that a dispute is occurring now.
- Contact the station for broadcast information. The local PBS station can confirm its schedule and over-the-air reception details, but DISH determines whether it carries the station on satellite in your market.
If PBS is available with an antenna but not on DISH
Over-the-air reception and satellite carriage are separate. A local PBS broadcaster may be receivable with an antenna even if its signal is not included in your DISH lineup. Reception depends on distance, terrain, buildings, antenna placement and local transmission conditions. Check the station’s website for its broadcast schedule and reception guidance; the PBS schedule help page explains how to reach local schedules through PBS.org or the PBS app.

Ways to watch PBS without DISH
- PBS.org and the PBS app: Find your local station, schedules and selected streaming programs through the PBS station directory. Live streams and program availability vary by station, rights and location; the online offering may not reproduce the full linear broadcast schedule.
- PBS Passport: This is expanded on-demand access associated with eligible support of a local PBS station, not a standard DISH channel or a guarantee that every program is available. Check your station’s information through PBS.
- An antenna: It may receive your local PBS broadcast without satellite carriage, but reception varies by location and setup.
