Its audience summary is more receptive to the film’s visual style, brutal violence and action set pieces. Those summaries describe the respective platform responses; they do not establish what every critic or viewer thinks.

What is the 2024 film about?
Rupert Sanders directed this 1-hour-51-minute action, fantasy and crime film, released theatrically in the United States on August 23, 2024. Bill Skarsgård plays Eric, with FKA twigs as Shelly. The two are soulmates who are murdered; Eric is offered a chance to save Shelly by sacrificing himself and pursues revenge across the worlds of the living and the dead. Rotten Tomatoes’ film page lists the premise and credits.
Is The Crow (2024) a remake of the 1994 movie?
The 2024 film is described by Rotten Tomatoes as a modern reimagining of James O’Barr’s original graphic novel. It invites comparison with the well-known 1994 film, but the cited sources frame it as another adaptation of the comic rather than simply a remake of that movie. The Atlantic’s Shirley Li notes that this version gives greater prominence to the romance and expands Eric’s supernatural origins, while finding its revenge plot generic and plodding. That is one critic’s reading, not a settled consensus. Read Shirley Li’s review in The Atlantic.
Rank #2
That difference in framing matters when comparing the films: the 2024 version can be judged on its choices in romance, characterization, pacing, visual style and action without treating it as a scene-for-scene remake. The Atlantic describes the 1994 film as a cult classic, but the available ratings do not establish a definitive ranking between the two adaptations.
