What happens in “The Gates Excitation”?
Penny gets the opportunity to host Gates at her pharmaceutical workplace because his company is considering a partnership with hers. Leonard, Howard, and Raj go to considerable lengths to try to meet him. Sheldon, meanwhile, believes the announcement is an April Fools’ prank.
The setup puts Gates in the middle of the group’s familiar mix of excitement and miscommunication: Penny has a work connection to the visit, while her friends see it as a rare chance to meet a famous technology figure. The episode is a sitcom guest appearance, not a documentary or an account of Gates’s work.
