The complaint’s allegations included claims concerning commissions and loans. A 1993 Washington Post profile said that, according to Joel, Weber bilked him of $30 million in songwriting royalties, concert receipts, and other income. That remains Joel’s account as reported by the newspaper, rather than an independent finding that the money was stolen.

The distinction matters: a complaint records claims made by one side, and a requested damages figure is not proof of liability. The available reporting supports saying Joel accused Weber of financial misconduct and alleged losses of about $30 million. It does not support stating as established fact that Weber stole exactly $30 million.

A 2014 New Yorker retrospective says the litigation was resolved out of court. It reports that Joel ultimately received settlements totaling roughly $10 million and that most of the money was never recovered. That account does not describe a court ruling that Weber stole $30 million, and the reported settlement total should not be presented as a precise recovery from a single source or transaction.
