Billie Eilish called Elon Musk “pathetic” in an Instagram Story on November 13, 2025, after resharing a campaign carousel about directing his wealth toward humanitarian and environmental causes. Musk replied on X four days later: “She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.” The exchange followed Eilish’s earlier appeal to billionaires to give money to people in need.
What did Billie Eilish say about Elon Musk?
On November 13, 2025, Eilish reshared an Instagram carousel from the advocacy group My Voice, My Choice. The slides argued that Musk’s wealth could be used to address humanitarian and environmental problems. Eilish added a profane insult calling Musk “pathetic,” as reported by Us Weekly.
The post was a written social-media caption, not an in-person confrontation or a live speech. Contemporary coverage described the carousel’s proposals as including efforts to end world hunger, save endangered species and rebuild Gaza. Those were campaign arguments, not independently established cost assessments.
What did Elon Musk say in response?
On November 17, Musk replied on X: “She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed,” according to Us Weekly. The San Francisco Chronicle also reported the response.

Why did Eilish criticize Musk?
The exchange came amid Eilish’s public criticism of extreme wealth and her call for wealthy people to support those in need. At the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards on October 29, 2025, she challenged the billionaires in attendance, asking, “If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?” Us Weekly reported her remarks and described her as urging the wealthy attendees to put money toward people in need.
The November Instagram Story connected that argument to Musk by sharing a campaign carousel focused on possible uses for his fortune. It framed the issue as a question of how wealth could address urgent needs, rather than as a dispute over a specific personal interaction.

What did the campaign carousel claim about Musk’s wealth?
Coverage by Us Weekly and The Independent reproduced figures from the My Voice, My Choice graphics. The estimates and counts below are claims shown in those campaign slides, not independently verified figures in the reporting reviewed:
- The graphics cited $40 billion per year and $140 billion over seven years in connection with humanitarian needs.
- They referred to 10,443 critically endangered species.
- They cited $1–2 billion annually in connection with rebuilding Gaza.
The figures are best understood as advocacy material illustrating the campaign’s case, not as a verified accounting of the cost of ending hunger, protecting species or rebuilding Gaza. The available reporting describes or reproduces parts of the posts; it does not establish a complete, independently preserved record of every slide in the original Instagram Story.

How does Musk’s Tesla compensation plan fit into the story?
Us Weekly reported that Tesla shareholders approved a compensation plan for Musk valued at more than $1 trillion. The package is conditional on his meeting company goals over the coming years; it should not be described as an unconditional cash payment he had already received. The campaign’s appeal concerned the potential scale of Musk’s wealth, while the reported plan’s value depends on future targets.
