The reporting behind this headline does not establish that Alex Spiro gave a general explanation for Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s silence about Sean “Diddy” Combs’s criminal case. It points instead to an October 2024 exchange with Piers Morgan after Jaguar Wright made claims about the couple: Spiro reportedly called his communication an “ultimatum,” not a cease-and-desist. A separate, anonymous-source account speculated that the couple would keep quiet, but that was not a public statement from Beyoncé, Jay-Z, or their lawyer.
What did Jay-Z’s lawyer say to Piers Morgan?
In October 2024, after Jaguar Wright made allegations about Beyoncé and Jay-Z during an interview with Piers Morgan, Jay-Z’s lawyer Alex Spiro addressed his communication with Morgan. The contemporaneous account says Spiro characterized it as an “ultimatum,” rather than a cease-and-desist, and Morgan said the segment was edited after the legal team contacted him. theJasmineBRAND reported on the exchange on October 10, 2024.
The report concerns a response to a television segment and Wright’s claims. It does not establish that Spiro made an on-record, general statement explaining why the couple had not commented on Combs’s criminal case. Because the available report is not a full primary transcript, the characterization is best attributed to the report rather than treated as a complete account of the communication.
Did Beyoncé and Jay-Z explain why they were staying silent?
No on-record explanation from Beyoncé, Jay-Z, or Spiro is established by the cited coverage. A separate report repeated an anonymous-source claim, originally attributed to In Touch Weekly, that the couple would “keep quiet.” That is speculation attributed to an unnamed source—not a confirmed plan or a statement from the couple. Hindustan Times relayed the claim in 2024.

Silence alone does not establish a person’s motive, knowledge, or involvement. Nor do public association, photographs, or rumors prove a connection to alleged criminal conduct.
What was the outcome of Combs’s federal criminal case?
The criminal case against Combs is separate from the civil allegation involving Jay-Z. On July 2, 2025, the Associated Press reported that a jury acquitted Combs of the top charges but convicted him on prostitution-related charges; bail was denied. The verdict was mixed, not a conviction on the top charges. The Associated Press’s verdict report describes that outcome.

How is the separate civil allegation involving Jay-Z different?
In December 2024, the Associated Press reported on a civil allegation naming Jay-Z and Combs, including the plaintiff’s acknowledgment of inconsistencies in her account and Spiro’s public characterization of the allegation as false. Those are reported statements, not a court finding that establishes the truth or falsity of every allegation. The AP report dated December 16, 2024 covers that stage of the matter.
A later report by El País, dated September 25, 2026, says the woman withdrew the allegation and stated that she had never met Jay-Z. El País attributed the account to a document obtained by Rolling Stone. Because the underlying document and a primary docket entry are not available in the cited reporting, the report should not be treated here as independently establishing the filing’s procedural effect or the case’s formal disposition. El País reported the development.
These proceedings should not be collapsed into one story: the federal prosecution concerned Combs, while the separate civil allegation named Jay-Z and Combs. The cited sources do not establish that Beyoncé was accused in either matter.
