Houston-area haunted attractions for 2026 range from indoor multi-haunt venues to outdoor trails, hayrides and festival-style events. There is no independent ranking establishing one as the city’s best; the right choice depends on where you want to go, when it is open and what kind of night you want.
Which haunted houses are near Houston?
“Houston” in seasonal listings often means the greater metro area, not just the city limits. The venues below are spread across Houston, Kingwood, Channelview, Spring and nearby communities. Confirm the address and route before booking, especially if you are comparing a city venue with one farther out.

These may suit visitors willing to drive beyond Houston proper; check the KPRC roundup and each attraction’s own ticket page for current details.
What’s a good haunted house near me?
Choose by format and group preference rather than relying on a blanket “best” label. An attraction’s name, theme or promotional ranking does not establish that it will suit every visitor.

- For an outing outside the city: compare the drive to Kingwood, Channelview or Spring with farther destinations such as Rosharon, Richmond, Texas City or Cleveland.
How to check dates, tickets and practical rules
Haunt calendars are seasonal and can change. KPRC’s 2026 roundup cautions that dates and hours can change; attraction pages are the place to verify final availability. Starting prices reported by the Chronicle are dated advertised figures, not guaranteed checkout totals: ticket tiers, fees, taxes and availability may alter what you pay.
- Open the official ticket calendar. Confirm the exact date, opening hours and venue location before making the trip. Select-night schedules do not mean a venue is open every night of the season.
- Review the ticket terms. Check what admission includes, whether activities cost extra, and whether the selected ticket is valid for the site and date you intend to visit.
- Check age guidance and contact rules. Effects, intensity and policies on actor contact vary by venue. Confirm that the experience is appropriate for everyone in your group.
- Read venue rules before arrival. Check policies on phones, flashlights, bags, parking and entry requirements rather than assuming rules are the same across attractions. Houston Scream Fest, for example, says everyone must accept a waiver to enter.
- Check weather and operating updates. Houston Scream Fest advertises “Open Rain or Shine,” but that is its own stated policy; it does not guarantee that other outdoor attractions will operate in severe weather. Follow each venue’s current notices.
For an outdoor visit, check the forecast and the venue’s rules before deciding what to bring. Do not assume a flashlight or phone is allowed; restrictions can be attraction-specific.

Are any Houston haunted houses independently ranked the best?
