What the earnings estimates include
Forbes describes these as estimated pretax earnings specifically for television work, based on interviews with agents, lawyers, managers, executives and industry experts. The estimates aim to capture what media companies pay talent and do not subtract representation fees. They are not audited salary records, net income, net worth or a tally of each person’s earnings from all sources. Forbes’ September 2025 ranking and methodology note that the figures combine different compensation structures, including salaries, overall production deals and licensing arrangements. A licensing deal can require a host to pay staff and production expenses, so a reported amount is not necessarily personal take-home pay.
Why the ranking spans different kinds of television work
Sports broadcasting and studio shows
Sports broadcasters and studio personalities account for eight of the 25 entries. Forbes connects their earning power to media companies’ substantial spending on sports rights and their competition for high-profile talent. Brady leads the group, followed by Troy Aikman at $18 million and Joe Buck at $16 million. These estimates concern television work; they should not be read as a complete accounting of a broadcaster’s other income.

Food and lifestyle television
Fieri, Flay and Ramsay share the second-highest estimate. Forbes describes their businesses as spanning multiple shows and production arrangements, where compensation may bundle hosting and production fees and can include other elements. As one example of deal context—not the basis for the ranking’s annual figure—Forbes reports that Fieri signed a three-year, $100 million Food Network deal in late 2023.
News, morning and court television
The list also includes news and morning-show presenters, along with Judy Sheindlin, whose estimated $30 million places her level with John Oliver. Forbes’ entries for Rachel Maddow, Robin Roberts, Savannah Guthrie and Kelly Ripa range from $22 million to $25 million. The formats and roles differ, so the amounts are not a direct comparison of equivalent jobs or contracts.
Late-night television
Forbes estimates Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel at $16 million each and Stephen Colbert at $15 million. Its September 2025 coverage describes budget pressure on late-night television and reports CBS’s cancellation decision concerning The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as of that publication date. Those program and contract details are dated context, not a statement of current status.
How to compare the figures fairly
The ranking is useful as a snapshot of estimated TV-related earnings, but it is not a like-for-like salary table. Forbes’ estimates can reflect different numbers of programs, responsibilities and deal types. Some may include production or licensing arrangements; the resulting business expenses and obligations can differ substantially. The estimates also exclude income from work outside television.

Rank #3
Forbes notes, for example, that Ryan Seacrest’s radio program pays him more than $10 million per year, separately from his TV work. It also discusses Hannity’s radio program and ownership stake as separate context. Those amounts and interests should not be added to the TV ranking as though they were included in its estimates.

Forbes relies on interviews and its own estimates rather than public, audited payroll records, while many contract details remain private. The article notes that Brady’s package includes company stock whose value changed after signing, and that a network spokesperson disputed the reported salary estimate for Maddow. The ranking is therefore best understood as Forbes’ estimate of pretax TV earnings, not independently verified compensation.
