Beyoncé became the first Black woman to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart when “Texas Hold ’Em” debuted at the top of the chart dated Feb. 24, 2024. The milestone is specific to that Billboard ranking; it does not mean she was the first Black woman to record country music or to top every country chart.
What record did Beyoncé set?
“Texas Hold ’Em” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart dated Feb. 24, 2024. Guinness World Records identifies Beyoncé as the record holder for the first Black woman to top the chart; it says the achievement was verified on Feb. 24. Billboard’s chart report was published Feb. 20, ahead of the chart’s issue date.

The same issue placed Beyoncé’s “16 Carriages” at No. 9. That made the two songs her country-chart entries on the week of the milestone.
What does Hot Country Songs measure?
Hot Country Songs is not simply a radio-airplay ranking. Billboard describes it as combining streaming, airplay and sales, so a song can reach the top through a mix of listening and purchasing activity across those measures.

That distinction matters because “Texas Hold ’Em” also appeared on two separate country charts: it opened at No. 1 on Country Digital Song Sales and at No. 54 on Country Airplay. Those placements are not the record named in the headline. Country Digital Song Sales tracks digital purchases, while Country Airplay reflects radio audience; Hot Country Songs is the broader multimetric chart.
What figures accompanied the No. 1 debut?
Billboard reported figures from Luminate for the tracking period through Feb. 15, 2024: 19.2 million official streams, an all-format airplay audience of 4.8 million, and 39,000 U.S. sales. These are the figures reported for that cutoff, not a standalone explanation of every factor in the chart’s ranking.

How was this different from Beyoncé’s other chart milestone?
Billboard and the Associated Press reported a related but separate distinction: Beyoncé became the first woman to top both Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs since the all-encompassing genre song charts began in October 1958. That cross-genre record concerns women generally; the first-Black-woman milestone concerns the Hot Country Songs chart specifically. Previous acts reported as having led both charts include Ray Charles, Billy Ray Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Morgan Wallen.

“Texas Hold ’Em” and “16 Carriages” were released ahead of Beyoncé’s country-influenced album, now known as Cowboy Carter. February 2024 coverage referred to the project as Act II and reported its then-expected March release; that was contemporaneous context, not a current release forecast.
