Big Freedia released “Take My Hand” on March 21, 2025, as the first taste of a planned gospel project. You can find the song through Big Freedia’s official Linktree, Apple Music, and Spotify. It later appeared as track two on her album Pressing Onward, released August 8, 2025.

What the single is—and how it led to Pressing Onward
Apple Music lists “Take My Hand” as a one-song, three-minute Gospel single released March 21, 2025, with ℗ 2025 Queen Diva Music. It was introduced as the first taste of Big Freedia’s forthcoming gospel project. That project became Pressing Onward, a 14-song, 41-minute album released August 8, 2025; “Take My Hand” is track two.
The genre descriptions reflect different aspects of the song rather than one universally used label. KCRW called it gospel-house, while Apple Music’s album notes describe “Take My Hand” as raucous hip-house. Apple Music classifies both the single and album under Gospel, and describes Pressing Onward as Freedia’s first foray into straight-up gospel music.

Freedia’s gospel background and the song’s message
The March 21, 2025, announcement from Shore Fire Media connected the project to Freedia’s religious upbringing and her work with choirs in New Orleans. It says she served as choir director at her high school and home church, and regularly performed with the New Orleans Gospel Music Workshop of America and the New Orleans Gospel Soul Children Choir. The announcement also notes that the track samples gospel preacher and pastor Dr. C.J. Johnson.
In the announcement, Freedia said: “Welcome to the Queendom! I’m so excited to release the first song off my upcoming Gospel Project.” She added: “My music has always spread messages of love, joy, freedom, and inclusivity. This is no different. The world needs this, and I can’t wait for y’all to hear it.”
