Beyoncé and Taylor Swift both made 2023 a landmark year for live music. If “bigger” means reported touring gross, Taylor Swift led Pollstar’s year-end chart—but the answer depends on the dates and shows counted. A box-office total can compare touring revenue; it cannot decide which artist mattered more.
Who had the bigger tour in 2023?
By Pollstar’s year-end chart measure, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour was larger in gross revenue during the chart period. Pollstar estimated $1,039,263,762 across 60 stadiums for Swift and reported about $580 million across 56 shows for Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour. Pollstar noted that Beyoncé’s result would have topped the chart in almost any other year. These are touring-gross figures, not an all-purpose ranking of the artists. Pollstar’s 2023 year-end tour analysis identifies Swift’s figure as an estimate based on box-office reports and additional research.
Why the reporting window changes the comparison
Pollstar’s chart year ran from November 17, 2022, through November 15, 2023. That cutoff excluded the Eras Tour’s final six Brazilian dates in November. Guinness World Records, citing Pollstar, lists $1,039,263,762 and 4,349,363 tickets sold across Swift’s first 60 shows, then gives an approximately $1.14 billion 2023 estimate when those six later shows are included. The $1.14 billion figure uses a broader show window, so it should not be substituted into the chart-year comparison as though both totals covered the same dates. Guinness World Records explains the figures and chart-year boundary.
Guinness also records Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour at $579,813,546 over 56 dates from May 10 to October 1, 2023. That precise total and Pollstar’s rounded “about $580 million” describe the same broad tour result, but the source and level of precision should stay attached to the number. The chart comparison is about gross revenue, not tickets per show, ticket affordability, profit, or a complete measure of either tour’s reach.

What the numbers do—and do not—measure
Touring scale
Gross revenue captures ticket sales within a stated reporting scope. It does not, by itself, establish net earnings, since costs and other financial details are not supplied by these totals. Nor does one tour’s larger gross make the other tour small: Pollstar’s reported figures put both among the year’s defining stadium events.
Wider impact
Pollstar data cited by Axios put the pair’s combined 2023 ticket sales at $1.6 billion, equal to the next five artists combined. That comparison conveys their joint scale; it is not a measure of artistic quality or cultural influence. Axios reports the combined comparison.

The live events also extended beyond stadium box offices. The Associated Press reported that Beyoncé’s five-month Renaissance tour drew about 2.7 million concertgoers and covered the theatrical release of her concert film. AP also covered the theatrical release of Swift’s Eras Tour concert film. Those releases broadened each tour’s public presence, but film performance and tour gross are different measures and should not be folded into a single total. The Associated Press reports on Beyoncé’s film and tour.

Before calling one tour “bigger,” specify what you mean. A useful comparison names the metric, dates, number of shows, and whether a number is reported or estimated. Swift’s $1.039 billion figure, for example, is Pollstar’s estimate for its chart-year scope; Guinness’s approximately $1.14 billion includes six additional Brazilian shows. Treat either as a touring result—not a verdict on which artist had the greater year overall.

That distinction matters because “success” includes questions these figures cannot answer: how audiences connected with the performances, what the artists accomplished creatively, and how their influence traveled across music and film. A June 2023 Music Times headline asked, “Which One Is The Biggest?”—a familiar framing, but a gross total can answer only a narrower version of that question. Music Times used that comparison framing.
