Ben 10 returned with a new series announced for 2016—but it was a reboot of the 2005 cartoon, not a continuation of its original story. The planned international debut was in 2016, with the U.S. launch set for 2017; the actual premiere dates varied by region.
What “Ben 10’s return” meant
In 2016, the creators’ group Man of Action announced a new Ben 10 series for Cartoon Network. The announcement described Man of Action as the series’ creator and executive producer. Later series reference material identifies the 2016 show as a reboot of the 2005 series, so “return” referred to a new iteration of the franchise—not a new season continuing the classic show’s continuity.
When the reboot premiered
Man of Action’s announcement set out the broad rollout plan: an international debut in 2016 and a U.S. debut in 2017. The actual premiere dates were staggered:
| Region | Reported premiere date |
|---|---|
| Australia, New Zealand, and Asia-Pacific | October 1, 2016 |
| United Kingdom | October 8, 2016 |
| United States | April 10, 2017 |
These regional dates come from secondary series reference material; they show why the announcement’s 2016 international and 2017 U.S. plans should not be read as one worldwide launch date. That reference material reports the reboot concluded in April 2021.

How the classic series and reboot differ
| Classic series | Reboot | |
|---|---|---|
| Relationship | The original 2005 Cartoon Network series | A rebooted iteration, not an announced continuation of the classic continuity |
| Release period | First aired in 2005 | Premieres began in 2016 outside the U.S.; the U.S. premiere was in 2017 |
| Best fit | Viewers looking for the original series | Viewers looking for the newer, rebooted version |
The two shows are separate entry points rather than consecutive seasons of one uninterrupted story. Choose based on which version you want to watch, not on an assumption that the reboot picks up where the original left off.
What later Ben 10 appearances do—and don’t—show
Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2020 release referred to the 2016 show as the “latest iteration” and discussed the film Ben 10 Versus the Universe alongside further episode debuts in Cartoon Network Africa. That is evidence of activity around the reboot-era franchise in 2020; it does not mean a separate new series began that year.

A later appearance of the original show on a TV schedule is also not, by itself, evidence of new episodes or a continuation. A 2025 entertainment report described the original returning to the schedule, but did not establish a new production. The 2016 return was a reboot; a broadcast rerun is a different kind of return.

In coverage of the 2016 relaunch announcement period, Animation World Network reported that Cartoon Network put Ben 10’s global retail sales at more than US$4.5 billion, with toys, interactive products, and home entertainment among the leading categories. This is a historical figure reported at the time—not a current sales total or valuation.
