In June 2024, an unnamed source close to Jennifer Lopez told People that she and Ben Affleck wanted to keep things amicable for their blended family, saying, “They want to stay friendly.” That was a source’s characterization—not a public statement from either Affleck or Lopez. Their divorce was finalized in 2025; later reports described them as cordial but did not establish that they planned to reunite.
What did the “stay friendly” report say?
A June 2024 report, summarized by Glamour from People, attributed the phrase “They want to stay friendly” to an unnamed source close to Lopez. The source said the pair wanted to keep matters amicable in front of their children. Neither celebrity publicly made that statement, so it should be understood as anonymous-source reporting rather than a confirmed account of their private intentions.
Affleck and Lopez have no children together. The reference to “the kids” concerned their blended family.
What happened in the divorce?
The legal timeline is clearer than the private account of their relationship. The Associated Press reported that Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024 and that court filings listed April 2023 as the date of separation. The couple reached a mediated settlement, and AP reported that neither would pay spousal support. Most financial details were not publicly filed, according to AP’s account.

Are Affleck and Lopez still friendly?
Later coverage described the former couple as cordial after the divorce. Us Weekly reported, citing anonymous sources, that they were not planning to get back together. Those accounts are reports about a private relationship, not independently verified statements of either person’s intentions. Being on civil terms does not, by itself, mean a couple intends to reconcile.

What has Affleck said about the breakup?
In an interview discussed by Elle in April 2025, Affleck resisted reducing the split to one dramatic explanation and did not disclose private details. As quoted in Elle’s coverage, he said: “It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships.” That public comment offers context about how he framed the relationship; it does not confirm the anonymous-source claims about how he and Lopez interact now.
