New series to try in October
East of Eden — Netflix, October 1
This new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel is set in the early 1900s and follows a woman whose choices shape a family across two generations. It may suit viewers drawn to literary adaptations and family stories. The series reworks an established novel rather than introducing a new story; readers can also approach it as a companion to Steinbeck’s East of Eden. Check Netflix’s October listings for current title availability.
Avatar: Seven Havens — Paramount+, October 9
A new animated series in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe, listed as a Paramount+ October highlight. Its franchise connection makes it a natural choice for viewers who want more of that world, though the available schedule information does not establish how much prior viewing is needed. Paramount+ notes that some titles may require Premium; it does not identify whether this show does, so check the title page and your plan before subscribing.
Carrie — Prime Video, October 7
Prime Video’s television adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel stars Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan, according to Amazon’s announcement. This is a new screen adaptation of a familiar story, rather than an original premise. Viewers who already know the novel or its earlier adaptations may want to compare how this version approaches it.

Returning seasons and ongoing series
The Lowdown, season 2 — Hulu, October 14
Disney’s calendar lists a two-episode premiere on Hulu. The release is a returning season, not a new series; viewers unfamiliar with season 1 should check the show page to see whether the story works as a fresh entry point. The same October calendar includes Hulu premieres such as Phony (October 20), Clown Panic (October 12) and The Mob (October 26), as well as the return of Abbott Elementary for season 6 on October 8 and new episodes of American Horror Story: 13 from October 8 onward. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose what to watch
- Want a brand-new series? Start with East of Eden, Carrie, Avatar: Seven Havens or VisionQuest; each is listed as a series premiere or new adaptation.
- Already follow a show? Look at the returning seasons, and check how much earlier viewing you need before starting.
- Check the service carefully. Disney’s October calendar covers both Disney+ and Hulu. A Hulu label does not mean the show is on Disney+.
- Confirm access in your country and plan. These listings are a U.S.-oriented snapshot. Availability can differ by region, and Paramount+ says some titles may require Premium without specifying which ones in the cited schedule.
- Check the release format. The calendar specifies a two-episode launch for The Lowdown season 2. It does not establish a premiere format for every title listed here.
The October dates and platform labels come from official service calendars and announcements: Netflix Tudum, Disney+ Explore, Paramount+ and Amazon’s Prime Video announcement. These sources establish schedule information, not independent assessments of quality. Check each service’s live title page for the latest availability.
