Arcane co-creator Christian Linke said he understood and respected viewers who felt the Netflix series’ second season was rushed or had too much going on. In a November 2024 interview, he acknowledged that Season 1’s slower pace had shaped expectations, described the shift as intentional, and said the team should listen and learn from the reaction. He did not say that every criticism was correct or offer a definitive explanation for each story choice.

What Christian Linke said about the criticism

In an interview published November 26, 2024, TechRadar asked Linke about complaints that Arcane Season 2 felt rushed and overloaded. He replied: “I understand them. I also respect people feel that way. We need to listen and learn from it.” His response acknowledged the criticism without endorsing every individual judgment about the season.

Linke also recognized that some viewers valued Season 1’s slower, character-driven approach and could be disappointed by a different pace in Season 2. He described the new season as an effort to do things differently and called the reaction a possible “symptom” of Arcane being a two-season story. That is context he offered, not a complete causal account of how particular plotlines were written or paced. Read TechRadar’s interview with Linke.

Why did Season 2 feel rushed to some viewers?

The interview describes a contrast in expectations: Season 1’s slower pace had worked for viewers who wanted more room with its characters and storylines, while Season 2 moved differently. Some viewers characterized the result as rushed or as having too much going on. The available reporting captures those reactions qualitatively; it does not establish how many viewers shared them or how representative they were.

The discussion also included a competing expectation: some fans asked why more League of Legends champions, including Camille, Blitzcrank, or Twitch, were not part of the story. The interview reports these requests alongside complaints about pacing, but they are not survey results. Together they illustrate a tension between giving the existing story room to develop and adding more characters to it.

What production constraints did Linke later describe?

In a separate statement reported by PC Gamer on December 2, 2024, Linke said the production faced budget and time constraints, coordination around the release window, and a lengthy project duration. He also said comparable constraints existed during Season 1 and wrote: “Constraints are NORMAL, and they were always generous, and I always had final say on anything creative.”

That later statement adds production context, but it does not independently establish that any one constraint caused a particular pacing choice. It should also be kept distinct from Linke’s November interview: the comments came at different times and addressed different aspects of the discussion. How Season 2 was made and released

Netflix identifies Christian Linke and Alex Yee as Arcane’s creators, Fortiche Production as the animation studio, and Riot Games as the company behind the League of Legends-based series. Season 2 was released in three acts; Netflix lists Act II for November 16, 2024, and Act III for November 23. Netflix Tudum reported on November 25, 2024, that both seasons were then streaming.

Netflix Tudum’s production feature describes a substantial creative undertaking: about 450 artists worked on Season 2 at peak production across the United States and France; a single design could go through as many as 20 iterations and take three weeks to three months to complete. Tudum also describes a three-year creative effort to realize the season’s finalized vision following Season 1’s November 2021 debut. These figures give a sense of production scale, not proof of why viewers responded to the pacing as they did. See Netflix’s Arcane media page and Netflix Tudum’s Season 2 production feature.

What the response does—and does not—settle

Linke’s comments establish that he heard the complaints, respected viewers who felt that way, and wanted the team to learn from the response. They also make clear that Season 2’s pace differed from Season 1 by design. They do not settle whether the season’s story was objectively too compressed, quantify the scale of dissatisfaction, or assign a single cause to particular narrative decisions.

Rank #4

Season 1’s awards provide context for the series’ earlier reception, but they do not measure opinion about Season 2: Netflix lists four Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022, including Outstanding Animated Program, and nine Annie Award category wins that year for Season 1.
