The interview addressed Hammer’s sexual interests, but that subject should not be conflated with the allegations of abuse. Consensual sexual interests are not evidence that a person committed abuse, and Hammer’s description of his interests does not resolve the claims made against him.
What was the scandal, and how did Hammer respond?
Public allegations and graphic messages involving Hammer became a major story in January 2021, according to the Guardian’s retrospective account. Multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct and abuse. Hammer denied criminal wrongdoing and said the encounters were consensual.
#1 Best Overall
In a February 2023 interview with Air Mail, covered by the Guardian, Hammer acknowledged emotional harm and discussed power imbalances in his relationships. He said, “I had a very intense and extreme lifestyle.” He also said, “I’m here to own my mistakes, take accountability for the fact that I was an asshole, that I was selfish, that I used people to make me feel better, and when I was done, moved on.” He added, “I’m now a healthier, happier, more balanced person.” Those statements are his account and acknowledgment; they do not amount to an admission of the criminal allegations, which he denied. The Guardian’s account of the 2023 interview.
What did he say about cannibalism and the allegations?
In a separate interview on the Louis Theroux Podcast, covered by the Guardian in February 2025, Hammer denied being a cannibal and again denied sexual abuse. Asked, “Are you a cannibal?”, he replied: “You know what you have to do to actually be a cannibal? You have to actually eat human flesh. So no.”
Rank #2
Hammer characterized the messages that fueled the cannibalism label as joking or as one side of a conversation. That is his explanation, not an independent finding about the messages or the accusers’ experiences. The Guardian also reported that Los Angeles County authorities declined to pursue sexual-assault charges. That was a charging decision, not a court judgment establishing that the allegations were true or false. The Guardian’s report on the 2025 podcast interview.

As of its February 26, 2026 update, Us Weekly reported that Hammer had returned to screen work, had other films in development and had paused his podcast. These are developments reported at that date, not a guarantee that every project was completed or released. The same article included claims from unnamed sources about his finances, relationships and family life; those claims are not independently confirmed here. Us Weekly’s February 26, 2026 update.
The timeline matters: the 2025 podcast appearance is what the headline refers to; the 2025 Louis Theroux interview and the 2026 update add later context. Neither changes what Page Six reported Hammer said on Your Mom’s House.
