John Cena has retired from in-ring competition, Trish Stratus returned after announcing her retirement, Mick Foley moved between wrestling and writing, and Booker T remains visible in WWE event coverage. These four familiar names show several different paths after the 2000s. “Beloved” is subjective, so this is a representative selection based on fan recognition and prominence in WWE during that decade—not a complete roster of its stars.
John Cena: retired from the ring, with a film and television career
As of WWE’s December 2025 event recap, Cena’s final match took place against Gunther on December 13, 2025. Gunther won by submission. WWE describes Cena as having retired from in-ring competition at the end of 2025; that means the end of his competition career, not necessarily an end to public appearances.
WWE’s profile also highlights Cena’s acting work, including Bumblebee, Blockers, Trainwreck, and Peacemaker. Those credits illustrate his move into film and television, but they are not a complete account of projects released after WWE’s profile was published. WWE’s John Cena profile and its December 13, 2025 recap of his final match document those details.
Trish Stratus: later returns after her 2006 retirement announcement
Stratus announced her retirement from the ring in 2006, but it did not end her wrestling appearances. WWE’s account includes later returns, her 2023 rivalry with Becky Lynch, and a 2025 Elimination Chamber appearance teaming with Tiffany Stratton against Nia Jax and Candice LeRae.

A precise summary is that Stratus retired from full-time competition and later returned for notable appearances. WWE’s Trish Stratus profile and 2025 Elimination Chamber coverage describe that history. The 2025 match is a documented appearance, not evidence of a regular full-time schedule.
Mick Foley: wrestling, writing, and WWE roles
Foley’s career after his 2000 retirement storyline included more than competing in the ring. WWE describes later stints as a commissioner and color commentator as well as a competitor. He also wrote the New York Times-bestselling autobiography Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

- Roll down to the ring with the Lucha Low Rider vehicle.
- Includes a WWE Main Event Rey Mysterio action figure with advanced articulation.
- Recreate iconic entrances with the Lucha Low Rider hydraulics action.
- Rey Mysterio can enter the match with the vehicle's launching action.
- Ride into matches with real rolling wheels.
These are established parts of Foley’s career, but WWE’s profile does not set out his complete present-day schedule. It is more accurate to describe his mix of wrestling, on-screen WWE work, and writing than to assign him a specific current role. See WWE’s Mick Foley profile.
Booker T: an ongoing presence in WWE event coverage
WWE’s profile says Booker T is usually seen as a panelist on pre-event Kick-Off Shows before Premium Live Events. It also records his 2013 Hall of Fame induction. The panel description is a snapshot of WWE’s profile, not a promise of future bookings; event-media roles can change.

| WWE star | In-ring status or later appearances | Other documented work |
|---|---|---|
| John Cena | Retired from in-ring competition at the end of 2025; WWE identifies his December 13, 2025 match with Gunther as his final match. | Film and television work, including Bumblebee, Blockers, Trainwreck, and Peacemaker, as listed in WWE’s profile. |
| Trish Stratus | Announced retirement in 2006, then made later returns, including a 2025 Elimination Chamber appearance. | The sources cited here focus on her WWE career and appearances; they do not establish a complete account of her other current work. |
| Mick Foley | After a 2000 retirement storyline, later returned to WWE as a competitor and held on-screen roles. | Author of Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks; inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. |
| Booker T | WWE’s profile describes him as usually appearing on pre-event Kick-Off panels before Premium Live Events. | Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. |
The comparison is limited to these four examples: it shows retirement with outside entertainment work, retirement followed by returns, a shift among wrestling, commentary and writing, and continued event coverage. It does not describe every prominent WWE performer from the decade. WWE’s Where Are They Now? collection is an editorial selection, rather than a comprehensive current directory.
