Bad Bunny’s pause after winning Album of the Year at the 2026 Grammys became a reaction meme: people use the image, GIF and video to express exhaustion, regret or relief. The moment followed his historic win for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, the first Spanish-language album to take the award.
What happened at the 2026 Grammys?
At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on February 1, 2026, Bad Bunny won Album of the Year for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. The Recording Academy’s recap describes him as “visibly shocked and overwhelmed” before he returned to the stage to give his speech. The official Grammy video shows the acceptance speech.

The win was historic: the Associated Press reports that the album was the first Spanish-language album to win Album of the Year. The Academy describes it more broadly as the first non-English-language album to win the category.
Why did the pause turn into a meme?
The brief reaction is easy to reuse: a stunned, emotional face can stand in for feelings people recognize in everyday situations. Know Your Meme documents it as a reaction image, GIF and video, commonly captioned to convey being exhausted, regretting a decision or feeling relieved.
#1 Best Overall
- NO HAY VERANO SIN TI
Early examples documented by Know Your Meme appeared on X on February 1 and 2, 2026. One joked about getting a job and having to start early on Monday; others applied the reaction to confirming a payment, watching a sport one is not obliged to watch, or setting a 6 a.m. alarm. Those are examples of the format’s flexibility, not a complete record of its uses.
What was the context of his speeches?
Before the Album of the Year win, Bad Bunny had addressed immigrants while accepting Best Música Urbana Album. The Recording Academy transcribes him opening, “Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say: ICE out,” and adding, “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”
Rank #2
- El último verano antes de todo
In his later Album of the Year speech, he dedicated the award “to all the people who had to leave their homeland to follow their dreams,” according to the AP. These speeches provide context for the ceremony, but they do not establish why he paused or what he was feeling in that specific moment. The Academy’s description of him as “visibly shocked and overwhelmed” is an observer’s characterization, not an explanation from Bad Bunny.
What do people call the meme?

Engagement counts attached to individual posts are snapshots for those posts, not a measure of its overall reach across platforms.
