The announcement called it Streisand’s first-ever recording for a television series. That distinction matters: it does not mean her first song for a screen production, since she had recorded music for films.
Who wrote and performed “Love Will Survive”?
The reported music collaborators and composers were Hans Zimmer, Kara Talve, and Walter Afanasieff. Charlie Midnight wrote the lyrics. Afanasieff and Peter Asher produced the track, and the London Symphony Orchestra performed under conductor William Ross. What did Streisand say the song was meant to express?
In a statement quoted by Rolling Stone India in 2024, Streisand connected the song to remembrance of the six million people lost in the Holocaust and to the idea that love can endure through dark times. She said: “Because of the rise in antisemitism around the world today, I wanted to sing ‘Love Will Survive’ in the context of this series, as a way of remembering the six-million souls who were lost less than 80 years ago,” Streisand said in a statement. “And also to say that even in the darkest of times, the power of love can triumph and endure.”
How does the song relate to the series?
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a dramatized adaptation of Morris’s novel, and the song was created for the series’ end titles. The song announcement described Streisand’s recording as a way to connect the story’s Holocaust setting with remembrance and the endurance of love. For readers interested in the source material, Morris’s novel is The Tattooist of Auschwitz; the novel and the television adaptation are distinct works.
