Bad Bunny’s “DtMF” became a soundtrack for TikTok tributes because its title evokes a familiar regret: wishing you had taken more photos and held on to more moments with the people you love. In early January 2025, users paired the song with photos and videos of relatives, friends, and people they missed. The trend turned a reflective song into a personal act of remembrance—not a statement that the song was written about one particular person.
What does “DtMF” mean?
“DtMF” abbreviates Debí Tirar Más Fotos, the title of Bad Bunny’s song and album. The Spanish phrase means “I should have taken more photos.” That idea gives the song a natural connection to photographs, memory, and the feeling that time with someone has passed too quickly. Billboard Brasil’s January 14, 2025 explainer discusses the song and its title.

Why did the song fit emotional tributes?
Photographs preserve fragments of ordinary life: a gathering, a shared joke, or a moment with someone who is no longer nearby. A song whose title expresses regret about not taking more pictures can make those images feel especially poignant. Its broad themes of memory and affection let users connect it to their own relationships, rather than requiring a single, fixed interpretation.
That distinction matters. TIME’s January 5, 2025 interview coverage provides context for the album and notes that the songs need not be about specific people. A TikTok tribute therefore reflects the poster’s relationship and memories; it does not establish who inspired the song. Read TIME’s interview feature.

What did the TikTok trend look like?
January 2025 coverage described people using “DtMF” alongside personal photographs and video clips of loved ones, including relatives and people they missed. The format gave viewers a compact way to share memories: images supplied the personal story, while the song’s reflective mood helped frame it as a tribute. N+ covered the trend on January 8, 2025; Yahoo Entertainment also reported on it that day.
Is “DtMF” still viral on TikTok?
The cited coverage establishes an early-January 2025 viral moment, not the song’s current popularity. It does not verify whether the trend remains widespread in October 2026. TikTok use can change over time, so the most accurate description is that “DtMF” inspired emotional tributes during a documented wave in early 2025.

What the trend says—and does not say—about the song
The trend shows how listeners can use a song’s imagery and emotional tone to express something personal. It does not prove a definitive autobiographical meaning, identify a particular person as the song’s subject, or mean every listener interprets it the same way. The photos and videos made each tribute specific; the song offered a shared language for memory and affection.
