Bad Bunny’s “No me quiero ir de aquí” residency ran from July 11 to September 20, 2025, at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan. Looking back, the evidence shows that San Juan made a specific event-response plan and that visitor spending rose on several measures. It does not establish that Puerto Rico’s island-wide infrastructure and public services were fully ready, or that the economic gains were shared evenly.
What “ready” means in this case
Readiness has more than one measure: whether the host city planned for event operations, whether island-wide infrastructure and public services could support the added demand, and whether local businesses and residents shared in the benefits. The public record is strongest on San Juan’s preparations and selected spending indicators. It is much thinner on service performance and who ultimately gained.

The residency was a series of sold-out dates at the Coliseo, according to Visa’s account of the event. Amazon’s September 15, 2025 announcement said the September 20 show would be the final performance and that the first nine shows were reserved exclusively for Puerto Rico residents. Visa’s residency analysis and Amazon’s announcement describe those details.
What San Juan prepared for
San Juan announced an integrated municipal plan covering safety, emergency management, cleanup, tourism, economic development, cultural promotion and private partnerships. Metro reported that the dedicated operation was scheduled from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. and included ambulances, paramedics, rapid-response units and a fire truck. The city also planned extra waste collection and cleaning in high-traffic areas. Mayor Miguel Romero said, “Vamos a asegurar que la ciudad capital tenga una estructura de respuesta rápida en caso de que sea necesario alguna eventualidad.” Metro’s report on the municipal plan documents the preparations.

That plan is evidence of event-specific preparation, not proof of how well the operation performed. The available public record does not include a comprehensive municipal after-action account of response times, transport performance, emergency calls, service interruptions or resident complaints. Without those outcome measures, the plan alone cannot establish that services operated smoothly—or that they failed.
What the economic numbers do—and don’t—show
Several figures have been associated with the residency, but they represent different kinds of evidence. A forecast, payment-card transactions and later estimates are not interchangeable totals: they vary by method, geography, time window and population counted.

| Source and measure | Reported figure | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Advantage Business Consulting, municipal report, 2025 | $377,277,822 in projected economic activity: $293,547,576 direct, $22,031,625 indirect and $61,698,620 induced; 3,642 projected jobs; $36 million projected fiscal impact | A model forecast using IMPLAN 2022 multipliers and stated spending assumptions, not an audited tally of realized results. The report’s modeled activity is for San Juan. |
| Visa Consulting & Analytics, 2025 | Nearly 20% growth in overall San Juan spending across Visa payment methods; more than 35% growth in spending by international Visa cardholders | Year-over-year VisaNet transaction comparisons for the ten concert weekends from July 11 through September 14, 2025, versus the same dates in 2024. Visa Direct-related transactions were excluded; these are not measures of all economic activity or household welfare. |
| Discover Puerto Rico, 2025 | $200 million–$700 million estimated impact range | The destination marketing organization said estimates varied by methodology; the range is not directly comparable to the municipal forecast or Visa’s transaction analysis. |
| Gaither International estimate, as reported by the Associated Press, 2025 | $733 million generated for Puerto Rico; roughly half a million attendees | A post-event estimate attributed to Gaither International in AP’s account. The underlying study is not available in the cited reporting here, so its result cannot be independently assessed or reconciled with the other figures. |
The municipal report’s projections depend on specific assumptions, including estimated spending per resident and nonresident spectator and a hotel nightly rate based on the 2024 metropolitan average. They should be described as model inputs, not observed spending. The Municipality of San Juan’s impact report provides the forecast and assumptions.
Visa’s analysis adds a different kind of signal. For its specified ten-weekend comparison, it also reported more than 15% growth in local and international spending in areas within two kilometers of the venue on show days, 75% growth in food spending, and more than 30% growth in lodging and clothing spending. Visa said August 1—the first day international visitors were admitted—was San Juan’s highest-spending day of that summer, at 50% above its seasonal average. These figures describe transactions made through Visa payment methods in the stated places and periods, not total island GDP, business profits, wages or residents’ cost of living. Visa’s analysis explains its transaction findings.

The estimates cannot be made apples-to-apples from the reported information. The municipal study modeled direct, indirect and induced activity in San Juan; Visa measured payment transactions over a defined period; Discover Puerto Rico cited a broad range tied to differing methods; and AP relayed a separate estimate for Puerto Rico attributed to Gaither. The Institute of Statistics catalog lists a medium-term impact study covering 15 functions, but its entry says there is not enough information to identify the reference population. The catalog entry therefore does not resolve the comparability question.
Island-wide infrastructure and service questions remain
Readiness for a concert series in San Juan is not the same as readiness across Puerto Rico’s electricity, transport and public-service systems. An Associated Press report in September 2025 relayed findings from a September 11 U.S. Office of Inspector General report: 92% of approved and obligated Puerto Rico grid projects were incomplete, and $3.7 billion in available funds had not been obligated. AP also described the grid as unstable and vulnerable to interruptions. This is wider infrastructure context, not evidence that the residency caused an outage or that a particular performance was disrupted. AP’s account of the grid findings and residency attributes those figures to the Inspector General report.

Who benefited from the visitor activity?
Reporting describes ways visitors engaged with businesses beyond the arena. AP covered independent cultural tours in Vega Baja and Ciales, hotel packages involving nearly three dozen hotels, and businesses selling local products. Discover Puerto Rico also described efforts to connect small and medium-sized businesses with visitors. These examples show that local participation was possible; they do not quantify how much of the total spending stayed with locally owned businesses, how workers’ earnings changed, or what costs residents faced. AP’s reporting and Discover Puerto Rico’s account describe examples and the destination’s approach, not a distributional accounting.
