Bad Monkey is an Apple TV+ comedy based on Carl Hiaasen’s novel. Vince Vaughn stars as Andrew Yancy, a former Miami detective whose new job inspecting restaurants in the Florida Keys takes an unexpected turn when tourists find a human arm. Apple shared a sneak peek ahead of the series’ 2024 premiere.
What is Bad Monkey about?
Yancy has been removed from police work and reassigned as a restaurant and health inspector in the Keys. The discovery of a human arm by tourists fishing nearby gives him a possible murder case—and a chance to prove himself and return to detective work. The premise sets a crime investigation against the Florida Keys setting, with the series presented as a comedy rather than a straight procedural. Apple’s series announcement outlines the setup.
Is Bad Monkey based on a book?
Yes. The series adapts Carl Hiaasen’s novel Bad Monkey. The show and the book are distinct ways to experience the story; the adaptation announcement establishes the connection but does not claim a scene-for-scene version. Apple’s first-look announcement identifies Hiaasen’s novel as the source.
Who made the series and who stars in it?
Bill Lawrence created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Vaughn is also an executive producer and plays Yancy. The announced ensemble includes L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet and Jodie Turner-Smith. Apple’s May 2024 announcement also lists Scott Glenn, John Ortiz, Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black and Charlotte Lawrence in guest or special guest roles. Warner Bros. Television produces the series for Apple TV+.
