The trailer for Bambi: The Reckoning reimagines the familiar deer as a mutated predator stalking a mother and son after a car wreck. The “vicious killing machine” label is horror-marketing language, not a biological description. The 2025 film draws on Felix Salten’s novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods; the available credits do not establish it as an adaptation of Disney’s animated film.
What happens in the trailer?
The story follows Xana and her son Benji after a car wreck leaves them vulnerable in the woods. A mutated, grief-stricken deer hunts them, seeking revenge for his mother’s death, according to the film’s official synopsis. Trailer coverage published March 5, 2025, described the pursuer as a “vicious killing machine.”
That phrase captures the film’s creature-feature framing. It is promotional language for a horror antagonist, not a claim that real deer behave this way or a clinical description of disease.
Is this an adaptation of Disney’s Bambi?
The film’s source connection is Felix Salten’s 1923 novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods, not an established adaptation of Disney’s animated movie. Dan Allen’s filmography and trailer coverage identify Salten’s book as the source connection. The deer may be widely recognized through Disney’s version, but that familiarity should not be confused with the film’s documented source material.

The full trailer was reported as released on March 5, 2025. The film’s official site currently displays “NOW ON DIGITAL” and “In theaters July 25th.” The page text does not name a digital retailer or territory, and the theatrical date is shown without a year, so those messages do not establish availability on a particular streaming service or in a specific market. An earlier report from December 15, 2023 mentioned a planned fall 2024 release; that was historical planning, not the final release date.
