The controversy centered especially on criticism of Gilberto’s expressive manner and Rodolffo’s comment about Fiuk wearing a dress. Gilberto later cited discomfort with homophobic jokes when he nominated Rodolffo. Rodolffo’s team disputed the accusation, and Rodolffo apologized after leaving the program. The accusation was a public interpretation of his conduct, not a settled legal finding.
What sparked the accusation?
Contemporaneous coverage described a series of comments and interactions rather than one isolated incident. Viewers and some contestants interpreted remarks about Gilberto’s manner as homophobic; reports also noted disagreement over whether particular language was prejudicial or colloquial. Those characterizations belong to the people and outlets making them, rather than being an uncontested finding.
A prominent flashpoint involved Fiuk, who wore a dress in the house. Rodolffo made a joke about it, later apologized to Fiuk, and described the remark as an “idiotic joke,” according to UOL’s coverage of the dispute. The episode added to criticism of his conduct toward LGBTQ contestants.
Why did Gilberto nominate Rodolffo?
In March 2021, Gilberto nominated Rodolffo for eviction and publicly cited his discomfort with homophobic jokes. Rodolffo was hurt by the nomination and described it as a betrayal by someone he considered close, as reported by UOL. The clash made the disagreement explicit inside the house: Gilberto explained the concern behind his decision, while Rodolffo focused on the personal rupture between them.

How did Rodolffo respond?
On February 25, 2021, UOL reported that Rodolffo’s team had sent extrajudicial notices to some social-media profiles asking them to remove posts accusing him of homophobia: UOL’s report on the notices. The team’s actions reflected a dispute over the accusation; they do not establish whether the conduct was or was not homophobic.
After his elimination, Rodolffo apologized for comments that had upset people. In a statement reported by Quem on April 7, 2021, the singer and BBB21 contestant said, “Estou aqui para assumir os meus erros e consertá-los” (“I’m here to own my mistakes and correct them”). He also said, “Quero pedir desculpas novamente a todo mundo que ficou chateado, que ficou revoltado” (“I want to apologize again to everyone who was upset, who was outraged”). An apology acknowledges harm and responsibility; it does not settle every interpretation of the earlier remarks.

Was the João Luiz hair dispute part of the homophobia controversy?
It was a separate dispute. During a Jogo da Discórdia, João Luiz said Rodolffo had compared a costume wig to João’s hair. João became emotional, and Globo’s coverage framed the incident as a debate about racism. João later revisited it after leaving the program. The incident is relevant to Rodolffo’s wider time in the house, but it should not be conflated with the earlier homophobia allegations. See Gshow’s coverage of the João Luiz dispute.
