The headline’s claim remains unverified, and no character has been named in the sources available here.
What Marvel has officially announced
Disney’s July 27, 2024 announcement says Robert Downey Jr. will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Victor von Doom and that Anthony and Joe Russo will direct Avengers: Doomsday. It does not announce a death or say Downey is returning as Tony Stark.
Where the “confirmed death” claim stands
The sources available do not identify an official Marvel or Disney statement, or a direct interview, confirming that the film will center on a specific major MCU death. The original source behind the headline’s use of “confirmed” is also unidentified. Without that source, naming a character as the subject of a confirmed death would go beyond what is established.
Coverage of the Russo brothers’ remarks has described Doomsday as a major shift or reinvention, but the located reports do not connect those comments to a confirmed character death. See TheWrap’s report and the Associated Press interview preview.

Why Loki theories are not confirmation
A September 11, 2026 ComicBook.com article discusses Loki and other possible character deaths, but presents its inference from Tom Hiddleston’s incomplete answer as speculation. An actor’s suggestive or incomplete remarks, fan theories, and reporting about possible outcomes are not the same as an official confirmation.
What to watch for in future announcements
A reliable confirmation should identify its source clearly: for example, an official Marvel or Disney announcement, or an attributable direct interview that explicitly names the character and the planned story event. Until a source does that, claims about who dies in Avengers: Doomsday should be treated as unverified rather than reported as fact.

A Doom collectible does not reveal the plot
GamesRadar+ reported on Doctor Doom merchandise, including a Funko figure. That is a collectible mention, not evidence that a particular MCU character will die or that the film’s story has been confirmed.
