In Avatar: Fire and Ash, Jake’s allied Na’vi defeat the remaining RDA force on Pandora, but the victory comes at a cost: Ronal dies after giving birth, and Quaritch disappears into an ocean vortex after his final fight with Jake. Kiri restores Spider, who can breathe Pandora’s air without a mask. The final scene brings Spider to the ancestral plane, where the spirits accept him as Na’vi. Varang’s fate, by contrast, is left uncertain.
What happens at the end of Avatar: Fire and Ash?
The conflict converges on a final battle between the RDA fleet, the Mangkwan—also known as the Ash People—and Na’vi forces allied with Jake. Lo’ak helps bring the tulkun into the fight. The published spoiler recap from TechRadar reports that the human military force left on Pandora is wiped out.

Ronal dies shortly after giving birth. Jake and Quaritch then fight over Spider. Neytiri and the children arrive, and Quaritch jumps into the ocean vortex. TechRadar describes the jump as his death, though the ending’s account does not show a body or otherwise establish more than that outcome.
How did the characters reach the final battle?
Varang and Quaritch’s alliance
Varang leads the Mangkwan, whose way of life was destroyed when she was a child, according to TechRadar’s recap. That history shapes her hostility toward other Na’vi clans. Quaritch gives her people weapons and trains them, forming a tactical alliance that also becomes romantic.

Jake’s surrender and escape
Jake surrenders to prevent the Fire Na’vi from destroying the Metkayina home. The humans hold him at their base, but the escape efforts converge: a marine biologist turns against the military plan, Spider uses his changed biology to help Jake, and Neytiri infiltrates the base. They free Jake and Spider, setting the stage for the last battle.
Does Quaritch die?
TechRadar’s spoiler recap says Quaritch jumps into the vortex to his death after fighting Jake. The scene makes his apparent fate a major consequence of the confrontation, but the cited account does not describe an on-screen confirmation beyond the jump itself.

What happens to Varang?
Varang’s fate is unresolved in the published recap: it does not clearly show what happens to her. It would be premature to say that she dies, escapes, or will return in a sequel. Her uncertain outcome is a possible continuation point, not confirmation of a particular future plot.
What happens to Spider and Kiri in the final scene?
Kiri’s power restores Spider and allows him to breathe Pandora’s air without a mask. In the final shot, Kiri brings him to the ancestral plane, where the spirits accept him as Na’vi. This gives Spider an emotional resolution, while leaving the cause and limits of Kiri’s abilities—and the full implications of Spider’s altered biology—open.
How does Fire and Ash set up Avatar 4?
The ending resolves the immediate military threat described in the recap; it does not establish the next film’s central conflict. What is concretely left open is Spider’s changed biology, Kiri’s partly unexplained connection to Eywa, and Varang’s uncertain fate. A return to Earth, a new war, or a specific next antagonist would be speculation rather than confirmed setup.
In an Avatar.com article published March 7, 2025, James Cameron explained the creative decision to divide material that had become too crowded in the earlier film’s first act: “So I said, ‘Guys, we’ve got to split it.’” The article connects that decision to giving the characters more room; it does not confirm what happens in a future sequel.

The Associated Press reported on August 26, 2025, that two additional Avatar films had been written with release dates in 2029 and 2031. Those are reported plans, not guaranteed release dates. The official Avatar story-development article also identifies Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno as writers in the room associated with the later films.

Disney’s streaming announcement says the film began streaming on Disney+ on June 24, 2026. Availability can vary by territory and change over time, so check the service in your region.
