Austin Butler said Taylor Swift was DJing at one point during a party at Paul McCartney’s home, while recalling the gathering with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The reports describe her using an iPhone to connect to the house sound system—not being hired as a DJ.
What Austin Butler and Jimmy Kimmel said about the party
Butler appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on June 17, 2024, while promoting The Bikeriders. In the conversation, Kimmel recalled that he and Butler had last seen each other at a party at Paul McCartney’s home. Kimmel called it possibly the craziest party he had attended, and Butler agreed: “That was insane,” according to Entertainment Tonight’s June 18, 2024 report.

Kimmel said Taylor Swift was there. Asked about the party, Butler added: “Yeah, she was DJing at one point.” The interview report does not give a precise date for the party, so the June 17 broadcast date should not be mistaken for the date of the gathering.
What “Taylor Swift was DJing” meant
In a later account on The Howard Stern Show, Kimmel described Swift using her iPhone to tap into the house sound system. He also clarified that she had not been hired to work as a DJ. Entertainment Tonight reported Kimmel’s recollection on June 26, 2024.

- The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th
That distinction puts Butler’s brief description in context: the reporting presents Swift as choosing or playing music through the party’s system, not as a booked performer. The accounts do not identify what she played or how long she controlled the music.
Other details from the recollections
Butler said he was most star-struck by Meryl Streep, joking that he had Paul McCartney’s vegan pizza in his mouth when they met. Kimmel’s later account also mentioned his wife, Molly McNearney, dancing in the kitchen. He estimated that around 100 people were at the party; that figure is Kimmel’s recollection, not an independently verified attendance count.

- Taylor Swift's 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, will be released worldwide October 3, 2025
Did Austin Butler “not keep a straight face”?
The June 18 and June 26 reports establish Butler’s comments about the party and Swift DJing, but they do not establish “couldn’t keep a straight face” as a direct quote or verified description of his reaction. It is best treated as headline framing rather than a confirmed detail from the reported exchange.
